I'm 27 in 2 weeks, and I'm spending all my money on my wedding

A few years ago I picked up one of these, and a set of Randall Downhill trucks, and some Krypto wheels. I must have been 32 at the time.

Was carving turns around my neighbourhood, with a set of leather gloves with cutting board plastic Shoo-Goo'd to the palms (dragging a palm on the ground helps you stabilize yourself when leaning WAY over) - the board turned and I didn't.

When I came to a friction stop in the middle of the road, some folks nearby hollered out "Are you ok?" Damn. I wished nobody saw me do that. I got up, politely informed them that it was time for me to go home now, then started looking for the board. This was 3 weeks before my wedding. Luckily the tux covered all of the road rash on my arms and legs. Didn't cover the bloodied kunckle I created with a large hammer a couple weeks prior though....

Lesley, you've made the mistake of putting up current pictures of yourself in other threads upon this forum (IIRC, working on the Dak, or test driving something).

You're no "bag", especially to men right around your own age. The reason I'm living with a much younger woman is because I couldn't find one my own age that was even slightly interested in all this car stuff..and even SWMBO doesn't want to do anything but hang out at the car show or get into the race for free (SCCA Workers get guest passes to pro races if we work them). It's kinda weird, actually..she doesn't mind getting her hands dirty on home improvement stuff, but won't touch a wrench. Ah, the mysteries of life..

I'm surprised that hasn't elicited a few offers.

My daughter, 14 at the time (2005) asked me to teach her how to surf. I asked, "..have any of your friends' parents fallen off a skateboard and broken a bone?" She said yes. I reminded her that if you can't swim like you used to, when you fall off a surfboard, you drown. I was 43 at the time..

It's a NOS 2008 Specialized Big Hit 2 that's labeled a freeride bike. Labels....

I'm making it slightly more trail friendly with lower gearing (they have 12-36 cassettes now!) and a few other changes.

Tips the scales at a svelte 42lbs.

LOL. You can't use the term "circa" in conjunction with "2006" because that was like yesterday.

What's a "freeride" bike? I've owned a bike forever and all my rides are free, minus maintenance costs, which aren't much.

I really want a dirt bike so I can ride with my 7-year old, but they all seem to cost real money on Craigslist. I might go the route Zomby took, and get a minibike. I'd really like an old Rupp.

It means that it can leap off of tall buildings/cliffs and not break.

<--38 and been back into skateboarding (bowl/miniramp) for 5 years now. I have 3 ~$150 board setups.

Then there's the bicycles, golf stuff, car stuff, guitar stuff...

Golf is dumb. I hate golf with a passion. And yet I find myself voluntarily playing it at least 20 times a year.

Not really... starting around 2003 or so, FR bikes began to diverge from the DH bike roots. DH race bikes are lower and lighter with slacker geometry. They trade some longevity (strength) for weight and speed. High-end DH race bikes are well under 40 lbs these days. FR bikes are designed to be heavier and tougher, with more upright geometry to better negotiate tight trails and NorthShore-style stunts. Travel tends to be about the same, and they often use the same forks, although single-crown long travel forks are more common on FR bikes.

Travel on DH and FR bikes has pretty much maxed out at 8" of effective travel (the Santa Cruz VPP-10, while technically with 10" runs with a lot of sag). Any more and the bikes got too tall and too heavy to be effective. In an effort to run the lightest bike they can, many racers will go with the shortest travel they can get away with.

I would suggest then that the term "Superman" bike is more appropriate than "freeride".

I'm considering a $2500 titanium road bike frame.....yeah, just the frame no actual wheels or other bits, just the tubes in the shape of a bike. well, and a carbon fiber fork...

Hey, if you got the funds and it's worth the funds to you, who can say you're wrong? You don't see hearses with luggage racks!

Dammit, I need to find me a Diamondback Mike Dominguez Strike zone like so .

I remember as a kid a friend had one that had a roller seat, aircraft pegs, the works, and it was JUST like the one in the photos with the spokes...... though i'd prefer the mags.

I still have my 20" BMX bike. I rarely ride it anymore, but I want to change that. Im 30, and, at best, have maybe 5 years of good, REAL riding in me. After that, its MTB and road I guess (got both). I really want to learn to weld so I can fab up a tube steel frame for a small, maybe 4' tall by 6' wide quarter pipe and deck that can be folded up on itself and stored away.

I still hit Stone Edge skate park every once in a great while, but their bowls are a little sketch for my old bones. I'd kill for a nice 4' mini ramp to play on.
