You know, every family has to come to terms with the fact that there are some subjects that are better off not discussed at the dinner table. Politics, religion, and general arguments being among those topics but not necessarily encompassing the whole group.
I do not have the time, nor the desire to babysit forum members who cannot just accept that there are other members who do not/will never have the same viewpoint on certain subjects. By babysit, I mean monitoring threads on topics that are likely to go downhill so that I can later take the heat for locking a discussion that had transcended from "lively banter" to "you're an idiot and here are all the reasons why" beacuse a few members hadn't gotten their last word in, or "didn't think it was that bad".
Quite frankly, we are all visitors in the Suddard's home here, and it seems that we have collectively e-shouted the hostess out of the room. I think it may be time for me to step out for a while as well, as the signal to noise ratio has recently exceeded my threshold. Peace out.
Yup, that's pretty much what Margie said a few weeks ago. Rules of engagement, so to speak. It's at the top of this forum and we've all read them. Yet this past week we had a very provocative and controversial thread started about climate change (again). Why? Where was that going to go? Exactly where it went. Was it intentional by the OP? I'd say probably. Was it childish and immature? Probably again. More importantly, was it an "in your face" defiance of Margie's rules of engagement? Definitely. I thought locking the thread was a wise move, and I was very disappointed that it was ultimately unlocked. So we're back to where we were a month ago, before the previous mess.
PS: So a certain few have disgusted and driven off the Boss and the Top Moderator. Pretty deplorable behavior I'd say.

Wow. So I was searching for "fabrication" here because I was trying to find a link to this one site that had all manner of little brackets and tabs and stuff, cheaper than you could make yourself even if you had all the tools and paid yourself a buck an hour.
That very photo was in one of them, from five years ago, in a thread about welding aluminum to steel...

Haha. Really!? that picture has lots of uses.
I think repetitive threads hashing over the same 'issue' are more detrimental to the quality of these boards than the 'bad' threads being discussed are.
In reply to Knurled:
Oooh-I remember that when it was a catalog but I don't remember the website. Did you find it?
I did find it but it was in Canada and I don't know what kind of timeframe I'd have to deal with when shipping across a border.

Yes, I agree. And I'm definitely guilty of that here. It's just that I think this particular time the problem has reached critical mass, given the consequences.

I agree. Grow the berkeley up. I don't come here as often because it's like being at a party where the drunk guys get loud and yell at each other, and no one else can have a conversation.
And that comment about ovaries? Sounds more like someone proving that their pecker still works.
Or proving that it doesn't. Cause if a guys hardware works, the last thing he wants to do is insult a gals hardware.
