Arrrgh - having a two-week round of dexamethasone for a skin rash. Getting about 4 hours of sleep every two days. Also makes me want to eat everything in sight. I feel for folks dealing with insomnia all the time.

I feel your pain. I have been dealing with insomnia for the first time in my life since my car accident.
I've had it on and off most of my life. Currently taking melatonin, which helps. My biggest problem is that I just don't want to go to sleep!
It's slow, but it's healing. Thing is, I used to be able to fall asleep during war movies, but now, my brain doesn't shut off.
Is the skin rash something you've had to deal with before?
I've battled it off and on my whole life. Melatonin didn't really do much. The only thing that works all of the time is to just completely exhaust myself physically.
Things that typically help most of the time are turning off the TV, cell phone, computer, and florescent lights (don't have the problem with the normal lights), and read a book. It tires your eyes out without wearing them out like lights do.
Every few years I get a flare up on the skin thing - then get hit with steroids to knock it down or combo roids and diflucan. Tired isn't really a problem - just the sleep part.
Opposite problem the other day. Overdosed on Levetrecaetam on accident. Needless to say, I called for a nap break.

Is it pain causing your trouble, or do they have you on painkillers? If yes on the painkillers, be very very careful. Some of them are very very bad for you...
No more pain meds, I've been off them for about two weeks now. The pain is tolerable and it's nice to be able to poop again.
No, I think the problem is that the giant spring in my head gets wound up and just keeps on going, even when I should be getting sleepy. I will be WIDE berkeleying awake at 2:30am, with no sign of sleepyness in sight. I am also dealing with flashbacks and anxiety, along with some depression following the accident. I plan on talking to the doc about it next week when I have a follow up appointment. I've been talking Unisom, and as long as I remember to take it around 8pm it seems to help. If I forget to take it, there will be no sleep.
