Talked to adjuster on phone, described damages, he's coming to look at it tomorrow afternoon, but he said based on my description it's probably going to be totaled.
I get to go deal with the yahoos at Enterprise and pick up a rental now.

Say what? What exactly are you covering your car with as far as insurance?
In reply to Sine_Qua_Non:
I am in the same boat as Toyman01. On my Golf I only carry Public Liability and Property Damage.
If it's stolen or I pile it up, I walk away. It only cost me $2K, why would I spend a bunch of money on Collision or Comp?

Strange. SF says I must carry full coverage or collision only. This is for SC which is what makes it weird since Toyman01 lives here as well.
In reply to Sine_Qua_Non:
If you have a loan on the car you have to carry full coverage. The loan company/bank is going to require it as part of the loan agreement. Liability, comprehensive and collision. That's not to cover you, that's to cover them if you total your car.
SC requires liability and uninsured/under-insured coverage at a minimum. It does not require collision or comprehensive, so I don't carry them on anything but the wife's car. Basically, I self-insure against the loss of my car, and I pay insurance against the loss of any other car or person I damage if I am at fault.
If I hit you, my insurance pays for your loss and pays me nothing for my loss. I hit a tree, my problem. If the car gets stolen, my problem and I get squat.
Along with that, if you hit me, my insurance company isn't involved, because I'm not paying them to be. So I deal with your insurance company.
On 5 cars, that saves me several thousand dollars a year in insurance premiums and with 5 cars, I don't need a rental, nor do I have to scramble to replace something that's totaled out.

Loan on a car? What's that? Never had a car payment in my life. All my cars are 25+. My wife's minivan is a 1998 and my DD is a 2000. Minivan is FC due to her job and all my other cars have liability only. Weirdest thing is I got a notice from SF saying they are raising the premiums for the 1991 BMW 325i based on other claims for this particular model from $110 every 6 months to $259 every 6 months. Not happy about that at all

Shop them. SF is pretty good most of the time, we've been with them for 4 years now. On occasion they need to be jerked up short. We price check them every time the rates twitch and if things don't look right, the agent gets a call. Since both of my houses, all my cars and my boat stay with the same agent, it's a pretty big chunk of change if we take our business elsewhere. If they won't get back in line, we change to someone else until the next company won't behave.

Because comp is almost free, and it covers a pile of stuff, none of which will affect your rates if you make a claim.
I just have Liability on the Malibu. In New York Full coverage was quite a bit extra and I have more than gotten my money out of the car.

Windshields baby, windshields...
When I took a spill on the motorcycle, my Progressive Adjuster was really great. Not to sound like a commercial, but he made the process so easy and made everything right. My only claim in almost 30 years of driving and it was painless.

I looked into it and dropping full coverage made sense for me. I have plenty of liability coverage for other people's loss, and an umbrella policy over that but it was going to cost me $400 a year to have a $1000 deductible on a $500 car.

Go to a windshield place and offer cash. Watch the price go down. The last one I paid for in my old Explorer was $170 out the door.
They "Valued" the car at $10,951
Estimated Damage $9,563.59
They're totaling it and offered $11,763.82 buy back is $2,641.44
I got them up to $12,500 and believe that's reasonable.
We've got some thinking to do.
Thankfully they're covering the rental through Monday.
From an industry insider, let the car go. They've offered you a great price for it. Salvage buy back isn't bad, but what are you really going to do with it? You'd have to convert the title, which lowers its' value, plus repairing it will probably cost more than you think. Take the offer and let them take the car.

~$27K
There's a white '10 (year newer than ours) with only 34K miles on it for $13K that's on my radar, it's about 3-4 hours from me.

This is where I'm at, getting SWMBO on board is going to be the deciding factor. I've laid it all out black and white for her. I'm going to let her decide, she's very intelligent, she is Dr. SWMBO PhD after all, analytical and logical, but, at the chance of sounding like a biggot, she is female. .

Get rid of it. I'm with Klayfish on this; it's just one of tens of thousands of VWs. Not like you can't find another one. Why put yourself through the hassle?

I got a 2nd letter today informing me of an error on my billing statement. It's now $290 every 6 months for liability only. WTF!!!
Zomby Woof wrote: I wish I could get insurance for $40/mo.
QFT, I pay 121/mo for full coverage on a car, stated value on a bike, full coverage on the other bike and comp on everything stored. LoL

I have found the exact opposite to be true. I was told by a glass place that they give insurance companies a 50% discount on the price of the glass.
