Not much to say here. The title pretty much says it all.

The gov't just recently bought the land for the Flight 93 memorial.

http://www.cnn.com/2009/US/08/31/pennsylvania.memorial/

To me, the Flight 93 tragedy was the most "American" thing that happened on that day. Previously, when an aircraft was hijacked, it was landed somewhere-and then the negotiations began. IMO, our greatest quality as Americans is that we adapt to new situations very quickly. Once the folks on that flight realized that things had changed, they realized what they had to do.

We stood together alone.

Wordlessly we all gathered in the breakroom, together but all alone.

We stood in awe, in horror, in fear, in pain

We screamed out loud inside.

We cried quietly.

We stood next to each other for comfort, but could not comfort each other.

We stood there together but all alone.

We stood together but we were not there, we were thousands of miles away in a city where we didn't live.

We stood and watched and hoped for someone to comfort us, but together we were alone.

That's pretty much how I remember that day. It was eery in the breakroom at YearOne. The whole company just stood there, now knowing what to do. Standing next to my best friend and still not being able to reach out for what seems like a basic human need. We all just stood there.

The months that followed were a great example of how great a country this is, and could be when we put aside all the bickering over petty nonsense. It's a shame that that part of what happened was over and forgotten so quickly, but it was bound to happen since we were urged to get back to "normal" as soon as possible.

The NYS Museum in Albany has an interesting exhibit with some of the remains from the WTC. I'll try to get the misses to post pics later. It was tough to explain to my 8 yr old nephew why it looked like I was going to cry in a museum.

I dont think it changed us for the better for the most part either. It drew us together for a little while, but then I think it drove us apart more than ever.

Yup, many have forgotten the outrage and their demand for someone to DO SOMETHING!

I think thats normal, even healthy to some degree. I don't think that you should forget, but to walk around consumed by anger isn't any good either. The sting of tragedies always eases a bit as time goes. If we had actually done something afterwards I think it may have been different. (don't worry, I'm not a 9/11 conspiracy theorist) but I don't think we did anything to go after the people that were actually behind the tragedies either.

Too many days, dollars and spin doctors are between then and now. I that we should have focused less on the "War on Terror" and more on a "War for Peace" spending the hundreds of billions of dollars on border safety, a reinforced homeland strategy and a scosche of reinvestment in the families of the United States.

Oh well we are where we are, I have still not forgotten.

The Imagine remix is a very very odd song. Mixing all the "Those who are responsible will be punished" and "Holy crap! People are dying!" sound bites with a song about universal love and peace is just weird.

I still remember that day like it was yesterday. The only thing is i spent that day in a doctor's office and the only channel they could get was Telemundo, so i could understand one thing they were saying. Ive been looking to see if anyone has made a show or DVD with the whole day uncut on it so i can see it... Anybody know if one is available? Like if CNN had taped the whole day and put it on a DVD or something like that...

The hassle is you can't build an impenatrable fence around America. I predict the next atomic weapon used in anger will go off in the good ol USA. I'm just hoping it will go off in someplace useless like NY city and not near me.

This morning when I walked into work I had a flashback to that day. My co-worker was standing in the back of the shop staring at the TV. He never stares at the freakin' TV, but that's exactly what he was doing 8 years ago today. I still did not know what was happening that morning until he said a plane had struck one of the towers. Then, as I stood there with him watching the live coverage the second plane struck. I still get a chill when I think about it.

Thankfully this morning he was just changing channels.

I lost friends that day.

I never made a demand for someone to DO SOMETHING. I decided to be diligent about the ways in which I would do things from then on.

I have not forgotten, and I still do things differently.

Do what exactly? We cant bring anyone back, the culprits gave their lives for their cause. The only thing that can be done is to be more careful and try to avoid the same situation again.

Without demeaning anything said here, we as a nation are still frightened by what was done, which makes the whole exercise a success on the part of the terrorists, the lackeys died that day not the extremist radicals who caused it, which is why our brave men and women are fighting for freedom to this day.

never forget, never relax, and expect a few inconveniences so the scum of the earth can have less chance of this ever being successful again.

Freedom is not free.

Thank you to all our brave soldiers who have, are or will serve.

George Bush said: Freedom and fear are at war. The advance of human freedom, the great achievement of our time and the great hope of every time, now depends on us. Our nation, this generation, will lift the dark threat of violence from our people and our future. We will rally the world to this cause by our efforts, by our courage. We will not tire, we will not falter and we will not fail.

Then some of us did tire...

I'm more than a little pissed there's no memorial/building for the WTC, and that the United 93 memorial is unbuilt and sort of weird. I think they should turn Ground Zero into a park and have left those two spotlights shining up.

SVreX, I'm not trying to argue, but what sort if things do you do differently? The only thing I think I changed is maybe not takeing things for granted. Other than supporting our troops (which, honestly I would support them 9/11 or not) I can't think of anything I could do to affect anything.

Lot of red tape involved with that. Having said that, they're making progress and are building on the site.

Too much valuable space there to leave it for parkland

It was never far from my mind yesterday. Down here the weather was beautiful, just like it was on the same day in 2001 and that helped me remember.

The waiting room at the dealership I worked at was full, one of the customers stuck his head out and said a plane had hit the WTC. My first thought: a puddle jumper, a terrible accident but still an accident and i said something to that effect. He said no, it was an airliner. WTF?

We all crowded into the waiting room just in time to see the second plane hit. To this day, every time I think of it my blood still boils.

Later in the day the reports of the Pentagon and Pennsylvania crashes came in and I immediately thought of a good friend who was supposed to be at the Pentagon that day. I finally caught up with him; at the last minute his trip had been canceled.

Last night I watched some of the History Channel's remembrance; again my blood boils. I can't believe that some of the people responsible are still walking the planet. I still remember the footage of the Palestinians dancing in the streets as they saw the news coverage. (Check snopes.com, it's true. CNN actually broadcast coverage of that event.)

As far as a WTC memorial, I am on the fence: part of me wants to see it preserved open as a memorial.

The other part wants to build something bigger and better on that spot, preferably in the shape of an extended middle finger.
