When I saw this: http://www.amazon.com/Build-Cheap-Sports-Motorbooks-Workshop/dp/0760322872/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1334199613&sr=8-1
(look at the prices)
I couldn't think of a single caption that quite summed it up... So I'm going to go with:
"Keith, tell me you're getting a portion of these profits!"
I guess that is all for now...
"How to sell my book and use the profits to build a low cost sports car."
If only I was getting a portion of those prices!
WOW... I have the Champion book (green car on cover, $79) and Keiths book($175).
Then again, I also have Heywood($120) and Milliken($89) books
I should appraise my book collection, I have a lot of engineering texts
I think the only one that probably sells used for more then Keiths book that I have was printed in 1872 (leather bound, gilded edged, engineers pocketbook)
It's a malfunction of the algorithm a lot of sellers use to price their books, if anyone is wondering.
And you can sell back your copy for a $5.99 gift card!
I think if they want $863, it's time for a second printing!
Same goes for John Clark's "Ignition".
If the publisher won't do another printing for Keith, maybe he can negotiate for an ebook format...we could all click on amazon's I'd like to read this book on Kindle link to show that there's interest.
"Back when I was your age candy bars were a nickle, and Keith Tanner's book was $24.77!"
Stay tuned for my next book: "How to sell 25 books and buy a real Lotus 7!"

I had that book. I traded it for his Mazda Miata MX- 5 Performance Projects selling new for $10.85.

As a Kindle and iPad owner (kindle app), I wholeheartedly approve this message.
Clicked
So, I guess my autographed copy (Signed at Targa Newfoundland!) is worth a gazillion or two?
It is theoretically available as an ebook through Google Books, but it's just a crappy scan. It's enough to make it officially available as one, though. I think they sold 8 in the last 6 months.
Going to a full Kindle/mobi/etc version is more effort. I'll prod them and see if they're willing to go to the effort. Of course, the books aren't really selling for $800+. There's a difference between the asking price and the selling price.
I think the publisher is targeting the wrong crowd...

My autographed copy must be worth a fortune!
Who should the publisher be targeting? At this point, the publisher is out of the picture. The people asking $800+ are people with one copy in their warehouse. The publisher probably sold those copies for about $11-15.
Autographed copies are definitely valuable. Even more if I drew little mustaches or speech bubbles on pictures in the book

I'd absolutely pay extra for that. In fact, if it ever goes back into print, please try to get them to publish it that way.

I should have had you done that while you were down here for sebring.
I'll be at the Mitty, undercover. I will happily deface any copies at hand. They don't even have to be my books.
Better get to practicein your cartoon mustaches.
