I'm headed down there for Octoberfest races. Four (count 'em, four) days of late model stock car racing. Apparently there may be beer available, too.
Anyway, I'm flying into Minneapolis on Wednesday, then rent/drive to Lacrosse to crew for a friend, whos car I drive locally. There is also a Young Guns race I'm eligible to run, since I have never run an ASA Midwest Tour race before. At 51, I think its likely that I won't get recruited by Jack Rousch, but ya never know.
Interesting feature race- Its called the Dick Trickle 99. Three 33 lap races, with the field inverted each time, cumulative best finishing total wins.
So, if anybody in the neighborhood is a short track stock car fan, look for the AMEC sponsored 77- I'll be the tall balding guy, either in a race suit or coveralls.
doesn't LaCrosse have an airport you could fly into? it's like a 3.5 hour drive from Minneapolis..
Fly into Madison and its a 2.75 hour drive
The problem is getting there from here- I can fly Saskatoon/Minneapolis fairly easily, but from there out its rent, bus or commuter air, I presume. There is also the possibility of a borrowed car. I suppose I could pretend I was a Mayo Clinic customer and take their bus- that would get me a couple hours closer...
Also- around here, we'll do a 3.5 hour drive for a coffee.
I can't help but good luck. One day when we win the lottery the wife and I want to hit the road and take in as many of these big short track shows as we can
