Don't limit yourself to car buddies. Woodworkers tend to need a lot of space - high ceilings are very helpful - as well as a decent amount of power. Their sawdust becomes your free oil spill cleaner. Plus, if they do a lot with cedar, the place will smell ah-MAZE-ing! There's actually a place in downtown Cincy where they've got a whole bunch of craftsmen workshops that turns into a sort of farmer's market for furniture and other wood products on the weekends. Or at least, they did five years ago...
That's my brother's interest in the space we share - he likes to play with making furniture and other stuff so we basically designed the whole space around the table saw.
My problem is that this area (DC Metro area) is large but densely populated. Commercial space is at a huge premium and anything outside of the area is over an hour away. In reality, looking in at a hours drive radius is only about a 30 mile radius. I should probably expand to 2 hours to find more affordable.
I also don't know many people who like to tinker or have to here. The GRM folks seem to live further out or have something already. I'm also super-middle class in what I could afford.
I did find this but its about 55 miles away. On a weekend I'd be looking at least an 1.5 drive one way. I also need to find some folks to split the bill with lol.
