I'm going to be in Lima from about midday this coming Saturday until Sunday morning.

My dad and I are riding down to watch an AMA flat track race Saturday evening.

Is there anything in or near Lima that we should check out?

What are some good places to eat?

I'm thinking about checking out the local dive bar scene, likely on my own, after the race, any recommendations (either for or against)?

Thanks.

Paging SyntheticBlinkerFluid, WiblerM3, and Pseudosport... they all did time there in college.

I live about 12 miles to the west.

Best places to eat are Beer Barrel - great pizza and lots of beer to choose from reasonable prices

Old City Prime - good if you like 40 - 50 dollar steaks

logdog is spot on with Kewpee i would highly recommend a stop there

If you really want to hit a dive bar (adult entertainment) you could stop by the par 3. I don't recommend it but you asked!

40 miles north, worked there a couple years. Nothing further to see here...

Do they still call it Slime-a?

What way will you be coming to Lima?
Your Profile says Ithica, NY. If coming from there I would suspect that your last leg of the trip would be off I-71 onto US30 to cross much of Ohio. You will pick up US30 at Mansfield, Oh and as such, you will go right past The Shawshank.
The Mansfield State Reformatory is where the entire movie, The Shawshank Redemption was filmed and they offer tours daily.

There is little offered at the exit you get off for The Shawshank but just 3 exits past that is Ontario, OH (suburb of Mansfield) that has just about anything you could need or want for food offerings. As you approach this exit you will see Menard's (a midwest chain like Lowes/Depot.)
I point this out because once you pass this exit, there will be very little for the next 1.5 hours till you reach Lima. Sort of the last "civilization."
From there, US30 is two lanes each way of relatively new expressway that cuts through farm fields.
Here on, everything will be flat and corn (really.) What is not corn is soybeans (really.)

At the same exit with Menard's there is a Skyline Chili which is an Ohio original. A chain based out of Cincinnati with a unique take on The Chili Dog. I will leave it to you to reserch these and decide if they are right for you. Let's not pretend it is good for you...it's a chili dog topped with cheese.
If you can't get enough, there is a Skyline in Lima too.

Ewwww, you'll get enough the first time.

Anytime you meet a local, ask them where they keep all the lima beans. They love that.

Really? You are pretty close to a GRM epicenter with a deep history in all things Rotary, Ford and Diesel. Sometimes the two are even mixed.

It's been a while since I've been there, so I can give you a little advice.

Take your chances with Kewpie. It seems that people who are native to the area love it, transplants and visitors, not so much.

Happy Daz is pretty good. I liked their food. Last time I checked they were still around.

There is a handful of good pizza places, but for the life of me I can't remember them.

Ralphies used to be right off I-75 next to East Gate plaza, but I don't even know of they are there any more and they had pretty good sports bar food.

Other than that, they have every fast food place on the face of the earth. You could head up 309 to "Burger Row".

There used to be some dive bars in downtown Lima, but like I said, it's been a while.

Jays over on the east side of town is good. Its a pretty nice sports bar. I can't recommend any dive bars.

The whole interchange at 309 and I75 is different, much better now. ralphies is there and has good food, there's a Grinders shop right there also that is pretty good (can't remember the name).

Did all you guys go to UNOH?

I live 30 miles east, not in town until Sunday

Highly recommend Thai Jasmine for tucker, best Thai anywhere around here, on Pine St.

Lima is the definition of a blue collar town, lots of social issues

Kewpies is great.

See if anything is on at the fairgrounds, they have some BIG events there.

Otherwise, not much to speak of
