So Yale bought 2700 VHS movies to start a collection.

They bought mostly B movies citing the cultural significance of the cover work to lure pimply face teens of the 80's and 90's (I resemble that remark) into renting them and making money. There are some pretty cools ones they show.
As a fan of this type of movie, I have been noticing this same trend start to come through on Netflix as well. Great B movies like there hasn't been for a while with catchy art to make you click on the link. Anyone else notice this trend coming around again?
Hipsters moving on to the next un-cool/cool thing?
In reply to Appleseed:
More or less.
This reminds me, the other day I saw an RCA video disk player(the video on on vinyl system) at goodwill. I should have bought it (it was $7) for hipster resale value, but it didn't have any discs to go with it.

I own several laserdiscs I'd probably be willing to part with, including the original star wars trilogy.

All I have to say is, they're filming sharknado 3 right now.

The problem is, the tapes run a huge risk of degrading/destructing when they're played. I hope they digitize them in order to preserve the contents.
FWIW, the hipster way of releasing a (music) single is via cassingle.

No, not laserdisc, videodisc. Basically a LP record modified for video. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capacitance_Electronic_Disc
In reply to Kenny_McCormic:
I have a copy of Death Race 2000 on video disc(vinyl), with the original movie poster, autographed by David Carradien.
It's for sale.

Oh wow. I never even knew about those.
Why not grab up all of the Laserdiscs?
I was cleaning the basement a few weeks back, and came across a lot of old VHS cassettes while doing so. Mostly old kids movies, but I did find a copy of two-lane blacktop and one called Mini madness about original Mini Coopers. I think I would like to sell both if anyone is interested, but I have no idea what they are worth.

I have a few of those too(also for sale).
I'm certainly no hipster and I never stopped watching content from my "old" vhs tapes. I still have a couple tube tvs that I never stopped using either.
Metallica is re-releasing No Life Til Leather on cassette. To bad for all those that got rid of those "out of style" cassette players way back when
i wonder how much Metallica is going to charge for that limited edition cassette? $30? $40? hopefully they at least break the little tab off so you can't accidentally record over it, and that they include a pencil in case you need to do an emergency rewind..
if they want to be extra super authentic with it, they should just record it onto whatever random worn out cassettes they can get their hands on- and maybe use one of the copies as a master from time to time- to make it as legit as the original copies of copies of copies that circulated around the metal underground before Kill em All was recorded..
and don't worry... i'm sure someone is working on a cassette player that plugs into a USB port so the younger crowd can listen to it..
