Worked as a service writer for a while. Had a customer come in with a battery that wouldn't charge. Cable connector was pretty much rotted in half, put enough strain on the alternator that it croaked as well.
Replaced alternator and cable. Weeks of trouble followed. Battery died multiple times, many warranty claims. Finally got out there and dug into it.Tech had used these to connect the cable. You can't tell from this, but when these are painted they don't bother to mask off the inside that interfaces with the battery terminal.
Weeks of work, hundreds of dollars, all because someone didn't run a battery terminal brush through the damn terminal connector.
I had the exact same issue with a customer we had sent new equipment too. Had all kinds of odd issues. Its up to the customer to provide and install the battery. After much troubleshooting we had the machine picked up and brought back. They put those same connectors on and same issue, paint all over them. That was the whole issue. After seeing them, I cleaned them up, put our shop battery in and zero issue.

Happens often enough that I just nod.
Not pictured: Someone managing to wedge the fuzzy donuts on a side terminal battery because the salesdroid upsold them and they had to go SOMEwhere.

I put my old Opel pictures away somewhere I'd not lose them. If I could only find them I could be the last 1% positive that I bought the same GT 30 years later and 750 miles away from when I had it when I was 19.

This should've been an 80s summer blockbuster, with Uma Thurman and Martha Plimpton, and Corey Haim and Corey Feldman.
