Personally, I think manufacturers should eat most of the liability for encouraging people to not pay attention when behind the wheel.
Can we extend this to cruise control, radios that communicate with cell phones, etc?

This is 100% my 8 year old nephew, and he doesn't know why it's funny.

OK, no meme-ability here, but picture a Nascar tire changer with the air hose hooked on the car as he tries to come around the front of the car, but he deals with it quickly.
"It's not your fault, but it is your problem."
It's already a law on the books that if a car in self driving mode is in a collision, the driver is at fault. You're supposed to be prepared to take action at all times.
This seems to be more tiring than just driving the damn car.
And just like that, big corporations pass their liability on to the consumer.
Well, there's also precedent: Airline pilots can use autopilot, but if SHTF, they're supposed to take charge. They don't get to say 'meh, autopilot did it, not my fault.'
Pilots have been found to be at fault when autopilot did something wrong and they didn't take care of the situation.
That is, in fact, why they are called Pilot In Command.
You're the driver. You're the captain of a small craft. You don't get to dump your liability onto the vehicle manufacturer because you let it do your job for you.
True, but pilots are actually trained. We can't say the same for drivers. If you can see lightning and hear thunder they'll give you a drivers license.

This is also a problem, yes.
I'm not suggesting gatekeeping, I am suggesting better training. Unfortunately some people see this as gatekeeping.
One of my friends is a driving instructor and his company is highly rated because they teach driving and driving "ethics" (for lack of a better term) instead of what you need to pass the exam. People sign on for additional lessons because they want them.
OTOH they also specialize in adult training, not just "my kid is 16 they need a drivers license now" drivers Ed.

I have a large family, and to say I'm frugal, is an understatement. The dollar menu at McDonald's used to be my go to when we needed food while traveling. Less than 1o years ago, you could get a double cheeseburger for $1.00. That same sandwich today is 2.99. That's about a 300% price increase ( the chart above only shows it at 100%)
BERK McDonald's ! ! It's actually cheaper to eat somewhere else now.
We usually stop at a grocery store and grab a loaf of bread and some cold cuts, if we're in a pinch. Way cheaper than fast food, for lunch for a bunch. But usually we just pack a cooler ahead of time.
