Everyone is greedy and selfish. If given the power any faction will tend to use it at the expense of others. The purpose of our governmental system is to balance the power of factions against each other. Money is power. The large corporations holding all the money are currently wielding that power at the expense of the lowest workers.
It is the place of our government to try to maintain a balance and protect both groups from the other. Currently it is the workers who need that protection.
So.... where in the COTUS does it say to tax the rich and give it to the lazy? I've been over it a few times and I cannot seem to find that anywhere.

I would disagree. Professional sports and video games are both increasingly growing industries that are all about the numbers and proving your worth.
Unfortunately, the large majority of American's would much rather spend their time watching the football game than solving income equality or developing the latest techno-skill to put them ahead.
The biggest problem in America is that we've made a big deal about competing with other Americans and less about competing with other countries.

I don't quite believe that, we are still competing globally.

I think I found your problem. You just compared playing a video game to working in the real world. Where's that facepalm gif when I need it?
edit: here it is

Bob,
Unfortunately, many American's today DO think that playing a video game is the only thing they need, the scores of latest game are the only thing worth talking about.
I'm arguing that American's care TOO MUCH about sports and entertainment and not enough about education and economic progress.
EDIT: By American's I mean people on both sides of political spectrum.
We're a nation who loves to play, who loves to isolate ourselves from the world problems. The problems of others. We just prefer to say "not my problem, I've got a football game to watch."

We aren't talking about taxing the rich. We are talking about telling them that they have to pay a reasonable minimum wage.
Balancing the will of factions is explained in the Federalist Papers.

No, many of us are saying: "Deal with your own problems because Im working 50+hours a week to handle mine."
We've got a friend on the local board that has his GED and 7 years of work experience. Came from a broken home, with no help and worked his way into a nice salaried $80k a year position. A position which was eliminated (along with 799 of his fellow employees). Is he crying? Nope. He's busting his ass to get another job, fully expecting to start out at the ground floor and work his way back up.
Too many spoiled rotten E36 M3s think they should be given a good job for nothing. berkeley that. Get your ass out there and find a way to make it work. The world, this country and the people in it owe you NOTHING.

That's like saying starving people wouldn't eat crumbs if they didn't make up a proper meal.

No. It's hard enough for me to find work as it is.
Wanting to get people off welfare is a strong argument in favor of raising the minimum wage.
The fact is, the current Minimum Wage is a livable wage. Can you have cable, a cell phone, a nice car, a TV and the latest clothes? Nope. But it will put food on the table, pay your bills if you're frugal put a couple dollars away each week.
But people want it all. To them, life without high speed internet and cable is unlivable. If you can't have the latest iPhone then your life is horrific.
Thought I'd check in on this thread to see who was winning this particular pissing contest...

Except for the fact that you'd have more people on unemployment....

Hurray, we solved another problem by doing nothing. Because the system we've got is perfect and will continue to be perfect forever, just like the Bible and just like the Constitution!

And your immaturity just came shining through. Congratulations! your parents must be so proud.

That assumes that the number of employees a company keeps is based primarily on a fixed payroll budget and not driven by the amount of labor needed for regular operations.
Workforce is driven more by demand for goods and services than by profits. Arguably you can increase demand by increasing how many people can afford things.

Ok, I have nothing to contribute. I haven't even been through this thread before right now. I'm shocked it's made 17 pages. That's all I have.

No, I admit I do not have proof.
Fixed that for you.
What proof do you have that raising the minimum wage will make people better? Do you really believe that the people with minimum skills are making the best financial decisions? Will they suddenly decide that the extra $40 that week will go into the 401k?
People that want to do better, do whatever it takes to make it happen, they don't just expect it.
Anyone can do better in this country if they want to.
I was simply addressing Fritsch's post asking for proof that raising the Minimum wage would create more unemployment. Bobzilla did not give an answer (I assume because he does not know, or does not like his answer), so I fixed that.
FWIW, I for the most part agree with you (Datsun). But keep the discussion an actual discussion--if someone asks a question, actually answer it or admit that you (the general you) don't know.

Why Does the Minimum Wage Have No Discernible Effect on Employment?
I ask because I prefer to critically think about things, and if you had proof, maybe a study, I would read it and look into it. And maybe my views would even change based on new information.
