This right here irritates the E36 M3 out of me. She wants to get married, so does he....fine.   But "amazing moment" apparently now requires candles, flowers, balloons, lighting, and berkeleyING FIREWORKS!  How the berkeley is the rest of their relationship going to go, constantly upping the ante for more insta-likes.

Gag.

That's what society wants you to think, but it doesn't have to. I proposed to my wife in the front seat of a Ford truck after dating for 5 weeks. We got married the next day at a lawyers office for the total cost of $20. That was 4 kids and 33 years ago.

I had a 2015 truck come into work two weeks ago for a noise. Rear end was screaming and it turned out the rear pinion seal had been slinging oil for an indeterminate amount of time and the rear axle had 2 or 3 tablespoons of fluid in it, tops. So I order all the parts I'm going to need, every bearing and a ring and pinion. Two weeks later, still no parts. Ask the parts guys when I'm going to see them, as the guy is in one of our dealership rentals and was supposed to be leaving for Florida. Parts guys call GM and tell me it will be another 2-3 weeks before the parts are even manufactured, with everything still being berkeleyed up from the strike. My boss calls the GM zone rep to get approval to throw a whole axle assembly in it instead, then learns that the GM catalog lists a complete rear axle as being "Discontinued". How the berkeley is the axle discontinued when there are still trucks rolling off the assembly line using that very part?!

Did I say two to three weeks? I meant "end of December"

So, the guy is now mad, because he is supposed to be Florida to start a new job and has sold his house and needs to be out of it. Parts and complete assemblies are non-existent. We are trying to convince our GM zone rep to let us put a used rear axle in it and then have GM just put an extended warranty on the rear axle, citing the extenuating circumstances. While I wait for the decision, this truck had been tying my lift up for 2 weeks, so today I put it back together enough to get it off my lift on the front axle. Now GM just called and wants photos of the disassembled rear end assembly, so now I get to tear it apart again. I should have just filled this axle back up, put a banana in there to quiet it up and sent the guy on his way and let it blow up in Viriginia.

The sad part is, I can already see the Jalopmodo article being written and in another week, GM responds with some decent-ish gift to the customer.

Some people want marriages, some people want weddings.  Nothin' wrong with having that special day, of course, but some people aren't interested in the rest of it.

Yea, maybe that did go off a little bit.

Plan A, is in my laser engraving thread I just started. Plan B is my grandmother's wedding ring that my mom offered me. Plan C/ E36 M3s n giggles was looking for a ring for her last night. I found one I really like, but at $700, I think we'd all rather the money go towards our house hunting. I just couldn't believe the things I was seeing that as a "designer ring" for $250 maGically become $3500 when they put engagement in the title. Not changing stones or clarity or material, just changing the name.

She doesn't do jewelry, which is nice, but I do have a family friend private jeweler. My dad went to dialysis with the original owner, and his daughter runs it now. She's always done really really well by me, and will probably get the wedding ring.

Courthouse wedding with parents or Vegas vacation. Party at my house afterwards to tell everyone else.

After seeing what $12k got my friends in May, we're perfectly happy doing things low key and cheap.

This is definently not a rant. White sapphires are another nice stone that happens to be affordable. They're second to diamonds in hardness and like 1/10 the cost. That's what I went with when I proposed.

Just to fit this thread: diamonds are stupid and so is the DeBeers company.

Diamonds are definitely idiotic. I laugh at people who pay insane money for them. Like, you people do realize that they restrict the supply to make them more expensive? They would be pennies on the dollars if they didn't

I'm guessing from the lack of prices on their website that it's not something I'm going to be able to cost-justify for personal use.  This has been quite the emotional rollercoaster for me, I'll have you know.  From excited that such a thing might be possible to the realization that it's just out of my reach.  All in about 2 minutes' worth of web searching.

Holy E36 M3. I didn't realize adding the word "engagement" to a ring search would take it from challenge money to mobile home money.

My wife started passively aggressively showing me rings she loved before I purposed. One day she shows me this antique ring that she absolutely loved. I laughed and she asked why, I told her that one day she would understand.

At 17 my mom bought herself a very cool sapphire ring that she wore everyday for the rest of her life, 43 years she wore it. It was the exact ring that my wife loved. My mom had passed a year and some ago at this point. After we found it I purposed totally off the cuff when she was getting ready to make breakfast.

I wish my mom had got a chance to meet her, they would have gotten along great.

Sometimes the ring doesn't cost a lot at all

Realized that my annual RallyCross rules committee vote-and-comment e-mail got sent to Spam for some damn reason.

Only nine rule changes to vote on this time, not twenty or thirty.  To make life easier, Keith concatenated the competitors' commentary into a %yea/nay and also made a separate file with all of the individual comments.

So much disinformation and bad assumptions.   I don't want to come across as "your bettors know what is good for you", but DAMN some people want things to be as expensive as possible.

A lot of people want "stock = stock".  Which is fine on the surface, until you find out that for your Humbter Dumblebug an OEM radiator is $1200, but is $80 on RockAuto, and suddenly non-OE radiators are fine in Stock.  But until then, OMG ADVANTAGE - in a class where 300hp STIs and Evos run against 165hp 2.5RSs and ?lowhp Crosstreks.  And lose.

Windows can't update.

I decided to fix it. Restore drives aren't restoring. Install drives aren't installing. I've tried enough stuff now, the machine, which was working fine aside from the not updating issue no longer boots. Startup repair can't repair startup. System restore can't restore the system.

Nothing works.

Rant, rant, rant, rant, rant. It's the rant thread. Nobody is coming here for the feel goods, that's the minor win thread. laugh

I also hate diamonds. I hate them even MORE since the stupid Diamonds Direct and Jared commercials are on all the time trying to create a narrative that you don't love somebody unless you buy them pretty rocks and oh, if you buy a pretty rock from us now, when you're poor and later on you find you're no longer poor we'll let you trade in your small, inferior awful rock for 110% of the purchase price if you buy a much larger rock to show how your love has grown.

Yeah, nah. Pass.

I need to stop drinking so much, it's really not good for me.

However, it makes the E36 M3 that my brain won't shut up about kinda quiet, even if it makes me an shiny happy person in the morning.

Sigh, my kids and wife deserve better.  I just don't think I will ever meet their needs.

Anyway, a truly minor rant; if my 3-year old would actually just brush her teeth, we could spend that time she screws around having actual fun instead of me being an shiny happy person and her dancing around being oblivious.  Seriously, every damn night I try not to lose my E36 M3 as she's ignoring my requests and threats about brushing her teeth.  She has a small mouth, it takes all of a minute to do them all.  Nope, gotta dance around and tell stories and god knows what else until Dad is red faced and about to explode.

I started getting up at 5AM and exercising. By the time everyone else gets up the shiny happy person phase has worn off. I am also dead tired by 8 or 9 and falling asleep without doing anything I shouldn't be doing is easy. The motivation to start and finally starting this whole new schedule was anything but easy.

This is a HUGE reason why I referee hockey. It pays me money, so I don't feel guilty, and I've learned enough about myself to know that I'm not going to join a gym or work out at home unless I am obligated to be there. Like a job. It isn't in the morning, except for the weekends, but it helps my psyche significantly.

This nightmare just keeps going. Now GM will agree to installing a used rear axle but the guy has to sign a waiver saying that anything rear axle related won't be covered. They said they won't kill his warranty if we use aftermarket parts to fix it, but some of the parts we need aren't available aftermarket. So clearly GM has more faith in new aftermarket parts than used parts that they manufactured, that's telling.

So... GM's part failed under warranty, they don't have a replacement part for a fairly new truck, and by fixing it the best they can under warranty, they're voiding that part of his warranty?

I'm not a legal action fan, but I'd be lawyering up if I was this guy.

Yeah, that about sums it up. And for the record, before anyone chimes in with "dealerships suck", this is not a dealership issue. We are calling GM and hounding them everyday, we are trying to think of every way to get this guys truck fixed. Hell, me and my boss were trying to see if the guy had an aftermarket warranty, in hopes that maybe we could act like it was out of GM warranty and get the aftermarket warranty to cough up for a used axle and get this guy on the road. Me, my boss, the service writer and the parts guy are kicking down every door we can to try and get something
