Just shut one of the overhead doors and was deafened by the sound of one of the cables snapping and a giant spring slamming into the mounts... lovely. Thanks a lot, service guy who replaced a cable on the other door and said this one was fine a couple months ago.
Minor win- I probably could have been really hurt by that and the only damage seems to be the hearing in my right ear, which was already the worse one.
Had right shoulder joint replaced spring last year. Left shoulder has suddenly started acting up, much like my right one did before I had a (thoroughly) torn labrum repaired in 2006. Lifting left arm for steering car starting to get pretty painful.
Had an appointment with orthopedic surgeon this morning. X-ray says lots of arthritis and a lot of narrowing of the joint, but no visible spurs at this time. W
Got an injection today with a "let's see what it's like in a couple of weeks," which should get me past my Road America track weekend in mid-October.
He also said that with my history, he'd move right to replacing the joint rather than scoping it if it continues to get worse. I'm pretty much on board with that, as if we're going to get to a joint replacement eventually, I'd rather go through only a single round of rehab.
I'm going to be all aftermarket parts by the time I shuffle off this mortal coil-- they'll just be sending me to the scrapper.

Too true. It's just assertions made with absolute confidence while ignoring most of the evidence.
My old 7" Windows tablet is on its way out, probably due to an aging battery. Every time I try to do a factory reset to prep it for recycling, it fails, usually with a hard reboot or power down. This corrupts the drive, so I fix that, try again, and it goes sideways again.
I really want another tiny Windows tablet, but the entire industry stopped making them, even though they were the new hotness six years ago.
Odds are, I'm going to have to subject this to a "physical one-way hash function" to finally retire it, and I hate that.

I really need to stop dragging my feet and get my primary doctor to refer me to an ortho to at least figure out exactly what's up with my shoulders... my left one is at the point where if I'm sitting for a modest period of time fiddling with my phone or reading a book without moving around much it will start to hurt pretty bad and frequently takes some pulling and flapping weirdly to get it to pop back to normal in the morning.
It's looking very much like The Dancer's concerns about Covid are going to torpedo my plans to take the E46 convertible down to the Challenge this year (and likely ever... it's unlikely I'll keep it under budget for another year...). It's frustrating as all hell after putting a lot of work into it (some of which I would definitely have foregone were I not planning on running it at the Challenge), but her concerns aren't wholly unfounded- she works with kids who a modest number of are considered medically fragile, so her catching it would mean having to stop all in-person classes she's doing for like a month and would likely spook some of them into not coming back at all. And as much as I want to go to the Challenge, I'm not so enamored of it to potentially have to be quarantined from my wife for two weeks after getting back.
As some of you may know, I bought an adjoining property from my neighbors which has some barns I'm going to turn into my workshop. I have a Thread about it here. When we agreed on the sale they had 30 days after closing to get what they wanted out of the barn, anything left was mine to deal with. 30 days after closing was yesterday. One thing to keep in mind is we made this agreement, and then covid hit before we signed. So from agreement to 30 days after closing was actually more like seven months that they had to get their crap. So they let this stuff sit for seven months. Thursday before the deadline they show up and cherry pick anything of value, put it on a wagon, and leave the berkeleying wagon sitting in my yard instead of taking it home. So I guess I have to read the contract again and decide if I
A) claim the E36 M3 on the wagon is mine now or
B) take the wagon load of E36 M3 and deliver it to their yard
They've been shiny happy people through the entire process and this is starting to push me a little too far.
In reply to gearheadmb :
I'm not expert, but if the E36 M3 is still on your property well after the agreed time, I believe it is your E36 M3. The question becomes, do you want the E36 M3. Ideally in a court of law I would think that just leaving it piled in your yard would be a violation of the spirit of the agreement, if not a violation of the letter.

We used to have to argue with the service guys at work to replace the other spring when one spring failed on the door. They would say "No, it should be fine" despite both springs being of roughly the same age and amount of cycles. And then, without fail, a week or two later, the other spring on the door would explode and scare the life out of everyone and leave us with an inoperative door for a week or two until they came to replace it.
Yesterday I was tinkering on the car, spending some time in the garage when I noticed my dog being VERY interested in something behind a 12" paver that was leaned up against the retaining wall. We have chipmunks so I figured there was a terrified munk cowering behind there and wishing for an escape.
So being the good guy I try to be I grabbed the dogs collar and hold her back while I lift the paver to let Alvin escape to a better hiding spot. When i see that he's already mortally wounded. Apparently my cat (the mighty hunter) had already severed his spine so the chipmunk is pathetically dragging himself away under front wheel drive only.
At this point my options are to let him go and be tortured and in pain for the rest of his (probably hours) life. Scoop him up and take him to my sister the vet to be told he's a goner. Do the humane thing with the paving stone in my hand and end his misery in 0.01 second.
It was the right choice but I felt bad smashing the little dude. Sigh.

That sucks to have to do, especially for something as cute as a chipper. Sorry.
I've been having a pretty solid run of good days so I was overdue for a E36 M3ty one. This one is probably my fault for getting into something I shouldn't.
In reply to Wally (Forum Supporter) :
That's life for you. Just remember you've been 100% at getting past the E36 M3ty ones so far.

Was mowing the yard the other day and had some pine tree trimmings from the day before that I was going over to mulch up.
I didnt see the box turtle hiding in them until after I had gone over him.

When I was young we lived with my grandma who grew up on a farm. One night, one of the neighborhood cats and it's 4 kittens climbed up onto the engine of my moms brown Buick wagon and when we went out to go to school the cats all hopped out and ran away really fast. Except one, but it's hard to count a bunch of running kittens, so we didn't know. Mom started the engine and we heard some thumping and squealing. Shut the car off and a kitten fell out. Looked pretty mangled. Took a couple loops with the serp belt probably. It was hollering and kind of rolling/scooching and obviously in bad shape. Grandma came out with a shovel saying something about "cruel to let animals suffer" and my sister and I were crying and watched as grandma lifted that shovel (best tool at hand probably) above her head and swung. The kitten's cat instincts won though and it somehow got up and ran away like nothing was wrong. I thought it was a miracle. But the next day there were only three kittens...
Dammit let me move my berkeleying money!!!

Ok, I'll bite, and talk to the dumbest AI bot since AIM.

Every berkeleying time I try to do things the "right" way, or at least the "not blatantly illegal" way, I get berkeleyed. Every. Single. berkeleying. Time.
I just want to order a couple thousand dollars worth of silicone, why is this so berkeleying hard.
My kids are not doing well in school with distance learning. We're not the only ones, but that isn't making the entire thing less stressful.
The estimated arrival day for PS Pump for the challenge Impala just got delayed from Friday to Monday. Not that it may matter, as the tool to install the pulley on it just made it to the Maumee, OH UPS depot. That place tends to be a black hole of lost, damaged, and delayed shipment for me.
On top of this, I've been working late almost every day lately, so the only time I have to work on the car is the weekend, and now it looks like I will be losing this upcoming one due to lack of parts.
Watching second graders squabble on the playground is depressing. The teacher in charge is ineffective and the entire proceeding is pathetic.

So... you were watching the presidential debate?
Jk, lol, etc
Rant: too much to do, not enough time. I need to get better at saying no.
I'm probably the only in the country loving tonight's E36 M3show. I'll take a win where I can, sorry everyone else.
