We lost our Mom on Mother's day, I think she was making it easy for us to remember when she passed. IT ws time for her to go, she was more then ready.
Had the local police do a wellness check on my Pops last night and got the dreaded phone call back saying he had passed sometime earlier in the week. He was 86 but was always active. Shoot, his 2014 Escape had 185K on it!!! He was always going. Went to the gym more then I do.
Not been a good year for my sisters and I.

Terribly sorry to hear that. You have my condolences. This year has been bad for losing members of our family, too.

I'm so sorry to hear that, GP. My condolences to your family. I'm glad to hear your dad was living independently right up to the end.

I'm so sorry
Thank you everyone
He had a huge garage also. It was my Aunt's place and she had a 38ft Class A motorhome so I could have parked a lot of stuff in there!
EastsideTim: Sorry for your family's loss also
They wonder why no one wants this job. A few weeks ago they needed to change my days off. Because our payroll department doesn't follow the same calendar the rest of the planet does it gives me too many days in one check, too few in another. The days I have too many I get nothing because I'm salaried. The days I have too few I lose two vacation days to make up the difference. It will eventually get sorted out. The last time involved explaining the situation to five people, 29 emails and a seven month wait. It's one of the many things that are way more complicated than they need to be here.
In reply to GPz11 (Forum Supporter) :
dang man, sorry to hear you've lost both parents.
In reply to GPz11 (Forum Supporter) :
My condolences.
I am dreading those calls and my parents are in their 80s.
And then there was this shiny happy person
Right front tire looks low...
ARGH. Wheel number three

oh, I am sorry to hear this. What a terrible time to lose your pops, right before the holidays.
I just realized that my hate of Casey Putsch is partially jealously, and the other part actual valid criticism.
I love his "Omega Car" Concept. I love what it stands for, I love that it could be like a locost or Midlana given a body meant for proper aero. I love the look too!
But I hate, HATE that it's built by a blowhard. I hate that he's only bringing it back because gas prices went up and he may be able to sell it. I hate when he calls himself a renaissance man. I hate when he strawmans his detractors with silly voices. I hate that I've messaged him and genius garage about it and got left on read, but what I've realized that I hate most of all, is that I have addictions to my computer and I wont upstage this dude without somehow overcoming them.

Berk brake bleeders. Hard. Bastards always break and I've never once been able to save a caliper. So now the 5 needs a caliper. No chance finding one on a Sunday, and during the week I work until dark. Super
You know what is more frustrating than trying to find a decent daily for under $4k? Trying to find a decent daily driver for under $4k when under a time crunch.
Ever since my GF's Wrangler engine decided to commit seppuku Thursday, I've been scrambling to find something that isn't a total E36 M3box. I absolutely have to find something this week as I was fortunate enough to find a cheap Turo rental to get me to work. Yesterday, I looked at the world's rattiest 2003 CR-V. It was at one of those shady dealers that have 200 vehicles on the lot. Of course the car listing made the car appear to be in better shape than it was. The odometer had a 17k mile discrepancy, the battery was dead, the interior looked (and smelled) like a homeless encampment. After jumping it, it had multiple warning lights on, the power steering pump screamed and it had a wonky idle. The test drive wasn't much better. The front suspension felt like it was going to fall off the car, the transmission whined and the brakes were non-existent.
All for the low price of $3500. BERK THAT
Searching Craigslist and FB Marketplace is an exercise in futility. Trying to find a listing that isn't a scam or shady dealer is impossible. The used car market is bonkers right now. Used up E36 M3boxes that were $500 two years ago are now $3000.

I finally figured out why my wife keeps leaving the garage door open. She says to me this morning, after returning from taking our eldest to work, "I know for a fact that I pressed the button this time".
So she doesn't look to make sure that the door is actually closing. She just hits the button once and hopes. Apparently when you have three kids in the car and you're running late, glancing in the mirror to see if the door is closing is an unreasonable thing to ask.
Makes me wonder how she's handling things like traffic lights and lane changes....
I guess it's a good thing that she does bother to actually look at the garage door when she's pulling IN to the garage.
I have no ambition again. I have been off a few days, wanted to get a bunch of stuff done, and accomplished almost none of it.

I went through this last year. Same budget. I gave up on the magic $3500 car that didn't exist. I upped my budget to $6k and overpaid for a 2010 Mazda6 with 140k miles and a rough exterior. It was the best thing I could find in that price range by a wide, wide margin. Good luck. You'll need it.

I like him, Genius Garage and what they do is really awesome. It's just that Casey has become a full blown youtuber. I think it happens when the titles are written in 3rd person.

Thanks. Its a pretty stressful situation to be in. I don't trust anything that would be less money to safely commute 80 miles a day on a 70+ MPH expressway. My budget has a hard cap of $4k. I literally cannot spare anymore money. I guess I could try to get a small loan to get something in the $8-$10k range but thats not optimal.
I hate being in this situation
Maybe pay a shop to swap in a motor? Probably at or under your 4K limit?

I went through that just a couple months ago, even asked here if anyone had a cheap beater I could buy.
Been looking for a friend of mine and while the market is improving, we're still in a crappy market!

When we bought our house 3 and a half years ago, it was as is, so it needed a bit of work. I would run ragged finishing 2-3 projects a day, beat myself up if I didn't. I was killing myself. I finally came to the conclusion that a perfect house is no good if I was too haggard to enjoy it. Now, I try (emphasis on try) to complete a project a week. That's 52 projects a year. That's reasonable. But some weeks, I accomplish absolutely nothing. I don't beat myself up when that happens.

Sorry for the tight situation you're in. I can relate. I ended up using Lightstream to get a loan for my car because interest rates were next to zero at the time.
