It's time to do a compression test on the Newbaru to see if it's worth keeping. I really wanted that thing to work, because one of my son's friends needs a car.

I'm booked doing chores and shopping outside of the house for most of the day today, so it's going to have to wait a bit, and it's going to slowly gnaw at me until I know.

If he wants to do that, it's on him.

I have to stand behind what leaves my shop.

I'll fill it with 90wt if he pays me to but there will be no warranty and it will be clearly stated on the invoice.

Or maybe he was already doing that really. I knew someone who thought 90w was good engine oil.

Hopefully it's not too much of a pain for you

But a new chain on the chain saw and was digging the new chain cutting power.

And I hit a hidden rock about 2 minutes into using it.

I hate sharpening chainsaws and I'm no where near as good as a brand new chain sharpness.

93 hours on the $3000 husqvarna mower and it broke the transaxle. This is after it popped a head gasket at 72 hours.

Im done.

I double checked my work this morning, everything by the book.

Cold start on the engine shows good oil pressure and no death rattle. Once it's warmed up, it's bad. Looks like this is just a worn out engine and nothing I caused.

When I make the phone call, I'll advise him that I can drain and refill with 20W50 or something like that and see if it improves his situation but he should probably start looking for a replacement vehicle.

I got a new set of wheels for my Corvette a few weeks ago. Yesterday I decided to clean up the stock set and put them in storage. The car was in the shop for a leaky transmission pan earlier this year. Both of the rear wheels had a thick layer of sludge inside them. It was a combination of transmission fluid, road grime and brake dust. Thanks to my local Chevrolet dealer for not cleaning up the wheels while it was in for warranty repair. I really haven't been impressed with their service.

I didn't doubt you, sounds like it's been abused.

No worries, I didn't think you were. That was for my own peace of mind.

I just got back from a 2 week long "business" trip on Saturday at 8pm. The shop lead, who is filling the role temporarily due to the real lead being out on medical leave, scheduled me on mid shift this week. That means I have to be at work at 10pm on Sunday.

Yeah, berkeley that.

I ended up requesting 8hrs of PTO so I could at least recover and adjust my sleep schedule to the opposite of what I was working on my "business" trip.

Mind you, this guy was fired from the shop manager role and demoted due to being such a E36 M3ty person. He literally can't manage people at all.

He told me before I left on my trip, and I quote, "I can manage the shop like a rockstar." Yep, that's why you were removed from that role, correct? Or why you have 5 or 6 HR complaints against you. Or the last 4 people that quit listed you BY NAME to HR as to why they left.

This job has lost its luster. I'm seriously thinking about leaving after I deploy in February. I shouldn't have to put up with this E36 M3.

Thanks for the kind words and advice y'all. I've honestly been resisting drinking mostly since she passed. It's the first time in 44 years of life that I've wanted to drink to oblivion.  Strange thing this grief is.

I thankfully had a 100 mile trail race/run already planned for last weekend. I was planning on doing exactly what p3ppy said- but for some reason I just couldn't force it. Thankfully I'm surrounded by a good group of folks.

I feel really badly for friends who have lost loved ones and while I was sincere- I just didn't get it.

Some days it seems like I spend half my time dealing with incompetence and bad customer service.

I don't know if it's because I won't tolerate it and insist on it being corrected, or I just have bad luck and continually draw the short straw.

I can buy weight bushings for every Polaris clutch except the P90.

They only sell weights for $50 each.

The weight bushings wear but the weights don't. The bushings are probably $2.00 worth of phenolic material.

My dirty secret is that I do social media. They each have an identity determined by their algorithm and the sort of user they attract. Instagram for pretty pictures and feelgood stuff. Facebook for communicating with friends and groups. Twitter for getting pissed off.

Is it just me, or is Facebook trying to be more like Twitter? For instance, on my video feed, Lately I've been getting a lot of gun stuff and Thai hookers. Now I see guns as a tool, and don't bother with the politics or the sport of the things, and I see hookers as a sad reality, not as a vacation treat. Neither keyword ever shows up in my searches. So why the f--k is Facebook sending me this crap?!  I repeatedly ask to get it gone, and they are ignoring my requests.

I started taking some short 3-4 day trips a few years ago and packed everything in a gym bag to carry on. I bought a cheap ticket from Seattle back to New York and didn't realize that it didn't include a carry on. Being stubborn I put all my shirts on over each other, two pairs of shorts on, tossed the socks and underwear, folded up the bag into my coat pocket.

Ladders and stubborn old people are a terrible combination, yet they refuse to give them up. My brother's 70 year old father in law decided to go up on a ladder one morning before church to get something out of the gutters instead of calling my brother or his son, both lived within a five minute walk of him. My sister in law got to find him unconscious that morning and my brother had to explain to the congregation why they no longer had a pastor.

Selling wheels and tires on FB Marketplace. List size, what year/make/model of car they came off of (E46 17's). Guy messages me yesterday, wants them, wants to beat me up on price, wants to give me half now, half after the holidays, etc. I was feeling patient/generous, offered a lower price, offered to hold them through the holidays for him so he could just come when he had the money etc. He wants them tomorrow (today).

Early this morning, we run into some logistical issues with pickup (he apparently took "anytime after 530" to mean 530am. So that's on me for not specifying AM or PM). I say PM and he expressed the urgency of needing to come right now by sending a picture of a much newer BMW on jackstands with no wheels, "my car had its wheels stolen".

"Ok. My dad is retired and lives nearby. I'll call him later this morning when he wakes up and see when he might could meet you. But. Your picture shows a car that's way newer than these came off of, I'd make sure they fit." And I sent him a link to the wheel specs. Assures me they'll fit.

Met my dad and messages not 2 hours later that they don't fit, wants to return them and my favorite part: "can I meet you at your job with them today?"

Well. I haven't been home. So, I don't have your money. But otherwise, sure!

Today my wife's 17k-mile Q5 decided to imitate a large brick displaying a transmission fault for the second time in the eleven months and 6k miles we've had it.

Yuck, what year?

2021, plug-in hybrid. We'll theoretically find out Monday whether it's a recurrence of the same issue or a new one.

We have the same q5 with 29k and only had it about 2k miles.   So far so good but just got a notice that "Inspection Due!"

interesred to hear what the outcome of your issue is!

eapecially with only about a year of warranty left, I'm getting nervous

Ever read Red Dwarf?

Dave Lister's friend tried to bring a twelve pack of lager onto a flight.  He's not allowed.  So, he drank them all right there in the queue.

I was working on an application for a job that could've quickly unberkeleyed my completely berkeleyed life, that I was totally qualified for, but the bastards expired it at least 3 days early! What's the point of posting an application deadline if instead of waiting for it, they're just going to sign up the first person who applies and shut it down early anyway?

I have no idea what to get the wife for Christmas, the only day I have free this week for shopping is Saturday... And I'll have my 17 month old with me...

Definitely a first world problem, and my fault for not figuring it out earlier, but...
