I replaced the battery on my 4S last year- was surprised at how painless it was with the kit that included all the tools.

Parked the Miata in the garage last week and apparently forgot the OBD scanner (left it connected). Monday morning when I went to try and start the Answer to go to work....totally dead. Took the Suburban instead.
Last night I hook up the charger and give it a couple of hours of 10 amp charge, try it again....still dead. Left it on 10 amps overnight and I'll try again tonight when I get home but I'm thinking I may have toasted my itty bitty teeny tiny jet ski sized AGM racing battery. Crap.
As previously mentioned, dog wasn't doing the best last week. Took him to our regular vet Friday and they sent us to a better-equipped one who said that they thought the more expensive tests & treatment wasn't necessary and gave us some different meds & easily-digested food. Over the weekend the dog did much better and as of Sunday evening we were pretty convinced he was back to normal.
During dinner yesterday he basically hacks up half a day's worth of food, and wife notices that what's coming out the other end is back to being messed up too. So it's back to the vet again- this time for several far more expensive tests which hopefully will get to the root of the problem, though I worry that they'll do them and still be no closer to figuring out (and resolving) the problem. SWMBO and I have already lost a good bit of sleep over this, and I worry she's making herself sick over it too (especially since the initial, probably now discounted, diagnosis was pancreatitis from feeding him too much fatty people-food...).
I wish my health insurance (or at least our HSA account) covered pets!

As an update... with tempers cooled and the light of a different day we have ended the conversation with payment in a beer or two at the next event. Sometimes not calling angry people names is not only polite... it's in our best interest ;)

Shame on me for thinking they were serious enough and spending towing money to drag the car there. Well, might as well go blow the cob webs out of the thing ... stay positive, you know, E36 M3 happens ... so... I'm out having a great time ripping on the car and I come up quickly behind a 911 that drops two off and chucks a rock into the grill of my car. I see the kidney grill go flying. Oh, well... it's a DE, I shouldn't be pushing people around at race pace even in the instructor group. My bad. I back off and finish out the session. I roll into the pits and there is a mildly angry guy (whom I know pretty well) waiting for me. My kidney grill bounced over my roof and smashed his windshield on his very pristine car. Sigh. Fine. I apologize despite it just being "one of those things" that happens. "I'll pay the deductible and if your window is smashed too badly to get thru tech... use my car." Nice. Now I'm buying the fuel to tow the car and probably a $200 deductible for a window. OK, well, atleast all I need is a new kidney grill... except wait... fuuuuuck. It smashed my window too. It's just under the Tirerack banner. An there is no cheap deductible for uninsured race cars. And that window was new in July. Tally? 2 windshields, a kidney grill, $140 in diesel fuel for something I was originally planning not to attend except for meeting someone to make a deal on the car. And I still have the car. My 1st world problems are really chapping my arse."Dude, you were on a race track. Go buy yourself a new windshield and quit being a whiney bitch."
oops … my bad

that's what eventually ended up causing our Molly to be put down … but it wasn't from people food … it was her third bout (maybe even fourth) … vet said it's EXTREMELY painful to the dog (even if she couldn't tell us) …and at 13 and a big dog (so typically shorter live span than small dog) we made the decision to end her pain and suffering … it's been 3 weeks … still tears me up on occasion …
good luck with you pup
Holy berkeleying E36 M3. I get one day off and it's hell in a hand basket.
I needed to tackle the long ignored "broken" toilet drain in the one bathroom. Easily enough right? Ha! For one its a crawl space just big enough for this fatass to get into without Crisco. Secondly, it's been broken for so long, it has a nice thick layer of crap everywhere I need to be. So, I've thrown down 80# of lime and 150# of cat litter to just get to the drain. Thirdly, I love working on and in a sweat box laying on some 2x4's... Fourthly, the dumbass who "fixed" it the last time, I want to kick him in the nads so hard he would be circling with Haley's Comet..... All because they broke the tub drain and basically shoved the drain pipe back in without any pipe dope to make sure the connection would stay.....
Grrrrrrr and it's only 2pm. Where's the tequila????? Beer ain't cutting it.

The good news is that the vet at the actual animal hospital said that based on the blood work he was fairly certain that it wasn't pancreatitis... but they're also still not sure exactly what's up with him. They didn't see anything definitive on the X-ray but there was a shadow they couldn't identify, so he has to go in tomorrow for an ultrasound (couldn't get the ultrasound tech in early enough for it to work today) to try and see if they can figure anything out.
$97.00 and an hour out of my way to get two headlight bulbs for the Fiat. One blew out yesterday on the wife's way home from work, the other on the way in this morning. No one in my area stocks them and even though the Dart uses the same bulb the Dodge dealer says they can't sell me one with the Mopar part number because my vin comes up as a Fiat. My wife loves the little car dearly but every friggen part requires a trip to the dealer, which wouldn't be terrible if we lived anywhere near one.

Damn. $48.50 per bulb? I hope they at least kissed you too. I would also stick a voltmeter across the battery run the engine and rev it up. Two bulbs blowing that close together makes me wonder if the alternator is overcharging.

the VIN thing really PO's me … I'll be happy to sign a statement that says I won't return the part if I've screwed up and gotten it wrong … just give me the damn part that I want

She drives with the lights on all the time and they went about a three days apart last time. I was able to get them locally last time but that place closed and for some reason Advance and AutoZone can't get them. NAPA just says I get what I deserve buying a Fiat.
Porting a number from one carrier to another. The receiving carrier has a very friendly person on the phone who, all the same, seems really fuzzy on everything.
So, the port is either finished, will finish at 10:00PM, or 10:26PM, or midnight tonight, or midnight in two days. It also finished a little while ago, was confirmed immediately, and now only needs "conturance" to be finished.
As if today couldn't get any worse, the dryer decided to quit working. Just sit and hum. Took it partially apart and somehow the drum was jammed. Readjust and it spins again.
I'm so over today. I need a bulldozer.

Six magic words.
"I'll take responsibility if it's wrong."
It's always worked for me. Mind you, you WILL have to hold up your end of the bargain, and not try to return ANYTHING, ever, unless they looked the part up.
Got woke up by a coughing fit. It's 3:30 am and I can't fall back asleep. Gotta be to work in four hours. berkeley.

I tried that. They said their hands were tied, the computer won't let them sell anything without a vin.

Seriously? Seems like you have an opportunity to be a parts house with service like that.

Sounds like FCA really tightened up on who can sell their parts and who can source the parts, and NAPA isn't happy about it. Why sell Fiat parts if you can only buy them from FCA?
(I could be wrong)

I see the dealers point because you'll get the right part everytime. LOL. But it frustrates the customer to the point of never coming back.
KyAllroad wrote: Get the vin off a Dart out in the lot and use it. Solved.
this …
but even better … the other solution of taking the part number and searching on Amazon …
they don't care what the VIN is

Ain't that the truth. I see both side's position. These days the counter guy can't just assume the customer is intelligent or being straight up. Hell, it was getting that way when I was selling parts; had a guy who wanted shocks for an 'Olds Toronado transaxle'. My spidey sense tingled and I put my misgivings on the computer invoice. Sure enough the guy was putting them on a GMC motorhome, the eye broke off of one and punched a hole through an air bag. He wanted us to pay for the bag, when the owner refused he sued us.
