My family gatherings are awesome. My FIL's extended family gateherings are awesome. My MIL's family is boring.

And seriously, that food is not good at all. And pepper is not spicy, so don't call that soup spicy.

I'm lucky that most of my and my wife's close family are really good people so I don't mind spending time with them. The food is another story. My parents Christmas Eve is usually good, a nice German sauerbraten dinner with potato balls and red cabbage. My Father in Laws was always good too. His plant would shut down two weeks for Christmas so the week leading up he would go crazy cooking and baking but now he's having health problems so my sister in law took over and made a pre cooked ham and frozen mac and cheese. I know no one wants to travel down here but I wish they'd let me take over some of the cooking.

You could alway say that you are hosting the Christmas, why don't you let me do all the cooking, while you relax for a bit.

Be the hero.

so.. as mentioned above, Sister and Nieces are down. I was supposed to take them to my Father's today to see him and my GrandMother (she's pushing 96). I also wanted to start doing some prep work to install electrical in his new addition. Instead they all go with my Mom to the Art League my mother works at once a week. They will be gone all day and they are stopping to do some shopping on the way home. People wonder why I cannot stand my sister, maybe it has a LOT to do with the fact she only acknowledges other people's existences when she needs them to do something for her.

Today I drove up to my old town to meet with the owner/creator of the OffRoadster to buy a few pieces of Miata kit for the suspension. (BTW, he was working in his office wearing a GRM t-shirt)

I thought I'd stop by my old house and see how it looked since I was within 2 miles....... It's destroyed. Totally neglected, the basement is stripped up to the 4' mark due to a sewage leak. There are no exterior lights. The grass hadn't been mown since July probably. My beautiful Japanese Maple had been hacked down to an ugly stump. The playground/playhouse I'd lovingly built for my kids was in disrepair.

I know it isn't my house any more, I lost it in the divorce. I also know that she is stuck with the $1,500 a month payment on it. But it's still E36 M3ty to see something that you spent such vast amounts of time and energy on just turned into crap.

sad to hear that Ky. She probably could have sold it for a nice chunk of change after the divorce and gotten something affordable. Unfortunately, I hear of that happening a lot. Wife takes the house and then discovers she can't afford it, so it falls apart because she won't sell it.

In reply to KyAllroad:

That sucks. I sold my first big house project years ago and I am fortunate in that the new owners took great care of it so far. They've listed it for sale again at a big $$ markup but I doubt they'll get it. If they do - great - more power to 'em. But watching it fall apart would have sucked.

Don't know, I don't think I've had the flu before. First time in 15 years I haven't gotten a flu shot too. I'm back at the doctor for better cough meds. I haven't stopped long enough to take a nap since Monday. Even Robotussin and NyQuil haven't helped. If this keeps up the wife threatened to smother me with a pillow and I doubt I have the energy to stop her.

In reply to Wall-e: Sounds like my brother. He's been hacking and coughing for weeks, it's been so long and unrelenting that his intercostals and abdominals hurt when he coughs now and he whines about that. Hearing "cough-cough-hack-wheeze-whiiinne" is irritating, I've fantasized about smothering him when he gets bad.

Today's rant: PC games.

I have more free time nowadays, so I thought I'd look for some interesting PC games to play.

Apparently, the makers of games for PC assume that who ever downloads their game is a "gamer", so they don't need to provide a tutorial or instructions on how to play their game.

So far I've downloaded and installed 3 games. With each one, I've wound up doing a "force quit", because it wasn't even obvious how to exit the game, much less how to actually play it.

Missed out on a good Craigslist find this morning.

1970 GMC C10 long bed, straight six, 3 on the floor, in the turdliest shade of brown, with an ugly ass cap. But it looked pretty rust free, paint looked original and decent, trim was all there and decent, interior intact...a great surviver quality truck, running and even inspected. $800

First ad on the page when I opened it up, posted like 20 min before I saw it. Called immediately, left a message, and less than an hour later the ad was gone

Too tired to sleep.

Woke up 3:30am yesterday, on the road at 3:45, nearly 1300 miles and 19hr40min of driving time (not including stops, fuel stops (of which there were seven) or absolutely loading my Volvo and the trailer to the gills with stuff. Trailer packed away at 6:30am today. home at 7am, showered and now can't sleep.

Too tired to sleep. May have said that already.

Got Titanfall 2 for Christmas, had to uninstall 3 other games just to make room to install it. Took forever and a day to install, then another eon to download 5 GB of updates before I could play it. Xbox One has been a huge disappointment since day one. I know they have larger hard drives now, but the fact that they were ever released with only 500 GB drives in the first place is asinine.

Titanfall 2's campaign has been pretty boring and repetitive so far, and they took away my favorite multiplayer mode from the original Titanfall, no more Frontier Defense.

I know I keep chiming in like I'm defending them, but I'm just trying to justify my purchase to myself.

Luckily, external hard drives are really cheap these days, and the Xbox will support one on each usb port, even combining like RAID to make it look and act as a single hard drive. Still sucked being an extra purchase, I bought my 2 days after buying the system when I realized I couldn't hold 10 games on the packaged hdd. From those speeds I'm guessing you're using a wireless connection. Wi-Fi is just there for show, it really is useless.

I just still can't get over the whole aspect with the games. You want a new one, but want to play the whole game, it's around or over $100. And still everything is available on 360, well who buys a new system to play old games on? I like the backwards compatibility, but without exclusive titles there really isn't a point.

I stand by my original opinion that this generation of consoles is completely pointless. No 4k support, no real upgrades, Sony or Microsoft, to making a new system. Same old games, same old networking, same resolutions, it's just a total waste of development dollars and purchase money.

I also recently wasted moneys on Titanfall 2.
After much ragequitting the first weekend, I have not played it in over a month... and don't intend to resume.

Falling asleep tonight back around 9:00 I had 1.5 cups of coffee. Not sleepy anymore and made it to midnight.......and now 4 am , I'd really like to sleep. Caffeine in the evening and being over 40 are a crappy combination. I remember when nothing affected me, now: my balance is much more fragile.

I'm completely unimpressed with the "powerful narcotic cough syrup" that's supposed to have helped me sleep since Thursday. It has done next to nothing so far.
