Monotony, dun dun duh-nuhnuh.

What monotonous projects have you been knocking out?

I'm breaking down about a dozen old Evinrude and Johnson outboards so I can save the useful bits and melt the remainder down into aluminum ingots for casting projects.  There are not many useful bits, unfortunately.   Being the same basic design from 1954 to 1970-something, its a fairly standard procedure to break them down.

The monotony comes from this procedure.

• Remove the bracket holding the lower swivel of the transom mount. 
• Remove the two brackets holding the upper portion of the transom mount. 
• Attempt to break apart the transom clamp structure
• Use torch to overcome corrosion in the aluminum
• Succeed in breaking apart the transom clamp structure.  
• Unbolt powerhead from tower of the outboard.
  • Repeat torch usage here as needed
• Unbolt lower unit from tower
• Assess powerhead and lower unit, break down as appropriate.
• Remove serial number tag to commemorate broken down motor

Repeat entire process as many times as appropriate, in this case half a dozen.

Last one of the day was a 7.5HP Evinrude, the condition of the powerhead is fairly representative of the corrosion on the rest of the motor and why its getting broken down.

Rusted enough I needed to head into the garage and use the vise to hold it in place

Once the screws were out, time to give some gentle heat to the pins

Aaaaand, yuck

Last one for the day, but it was fairly productive.  Now, I only have four more out back that need my attention.  Bleh.

Life.

Get up, go to work, come home, work on the house, sleep, repeat.

It's Groundhog Day but without the do-overs.

7 years so far.

It's come a long way from the heap of ill-fitting, mismatched bits and pieces we started with. It's been taken apart and put back together a few times to make parts fit and work together properly.

A lot of it has just been finding parts, making parts, waiting for parts to arrive, returning incorrect parts, repairing parts, etc.

I think we've finished 5 or 6 other cars while this one has been in process.

It's finally going together for the last time. I'll be glad when it's done.

Painting my garage.  Its bare drywall from 1997 that was never painted, so the paper surface went brown. Its taking 3+ coats of straight KILLZ to even get to garage passable. This includes painting the ceiling, which is just about the worst thing ever. 

Daily stress of wife and I working from home full time while passing my 5 month old son back and forth and paying my mother in law to watch our 2.5yo. Both of us have a LOT of meetings, so it gets hairy and the days are just blending together.

Work?

No projects at the moment other than my little Lego Tecknik Ducati. I need to get back to get and get as much of it together as possible since it's missing a piece out of the box. Want to make sure there are no others missing before I order that one.
