For sure. I'm rooting for you too! FWIW, bladder cancer also has a low survival rate but the docs are very optimistic on mine, so I know how it feels to have them planning ahead that far! 
Also, don't automatically take it for granted that you can drive on the streets but can't drive on track. I drive myself pretty much everywhere, I've run a LeMons race (5 hours driving) and some track days since my diagnosis, have more stuff planned (another LeMons, the Dragon Hillclimb, track day at VIR and that's just through the end of this year). The way I see it: this damn thing might get me in the end but it won't stop me from doing what I love if I have anything to say about it.
i'll have a good 6 months+ of rehab before i'm track worthy, endurance is not my strong suit right now, 10 minutes of anything physical and I'm good for the next hour plus, my arm is fresh out of the sling and abdomen is in similar shape, starting next week I'll be allow to start trying to get up from sitting or laying down without assistance. Baby steps, but steps.
The best thing is you have something to work toward.

Oh god man, I'm breaking. Just looked at your profile, for some reason I thought you were much older. You have definitely put into perspective what I thought was a tough few months.
