"a NASCAR" is not a thing... there was a race prepped NASCAR Sprint Cup spec race car in the trailer, along with a spare engine and some tools and a few other miscellaneous stuff in a smaller generic looking enclosed car trailer hooked up to a Ford F250.. probably closer to a 20 footer at the minimum, but we can't rely on the media to get anything right when talking about anything car related that doesn't have anything to do with a new appliance that you drive off a new car lot..

That team (at least the owner) is super shady and it looks like that car didn't even have an engine in it when they "found" it.

they might have decided to put the engine in it at the track, but what did you see in the pics of it that indicated that it might not have had an engine in it? they could have cranked the screw jacks on the front springs all the way down to raise the front of the car to make it easier to push in and out of the trailer.. and with the spring rates they run (1000+ lb/in on the right front), the nose of the car will barely go up when 800 pounds of engine and transmission are taken out..

project heavy metal i googled "car craft magazine impala project" and it was the first hit. but you're right, hard to find pix.

Berk me, it's been twelve years since they found the parts! I have that issue somewhere.

They found it???

Wow, I remember when they were building it and running into all sorts of weird issues. I blame it all on the karma from painting an Impala beige, including the smoothed frame.

they found some parts of it.. in the back of a car... across the street from the house of one of the editors that built it.

that was one badass Impala, but even the young me knew that they did a couple of things wrong- like welding the roll cage into the floor so they could still take the body off the frame.. and the hell they went thru just to get the valve cover to clear the brake booster: too bad no one was doing hydraboost swaps back then..
