A family friend told me her daughter was in Japan for the Christmas holiday. I sent her an email telling her to bring me all the old Japanese car magazines she could find and I would pay her. Two Nostalgic Hero's, one Nissan/Datsun magazine, and one 1980's magazine that has a bunch of MR2's, Starions, Honda City's, and Nissan sedans with couches (sort of) instead of bucket seats.

I am totally pumped. Average magazine cost was $11.25 each. Are you guys excited for me? If I am busy reading that means there will be less stupid comments from me that you have to endure.

Sweet! When i was a kid in the '80s my aunt moved to Germany for a few years (late uncle was german). She sent me a magazine something called auto catalogue. It had every car from stock to modified with specs and all. I wish Id kept it...

I'm sure this is a stupid question, but why is the name of the magazine in English?

Don't ask me why, but many Japanese magazines feature English titles: Road&Ster (Miatas), Daytona (American cars), Play Drive (rally), Option (drift). My wife collects Tarzan, a fitness magazine: http://magazineworld.jp/tarzan/595/

And yes, we have a ton of Japanese magazines that we'll never read. The pictures are pretty, though. One day I should take a photo of the lot.

Tarzan is an awesome name for a fitness magazine.

I'm home now and just looked through my Japanese mags--figure the collection takes up about 5 feet of shelf space. Most do have English titles, but that's where it ends. Well, not always, as English story titles are popular. It's an interesting mix.

Some other cool magazines: Style Wagon (hopped-up minivans), A-cars (American cars), 911 Days (Porsche 911), Lightning (old-school cars) Mini Freak and VIP Car. Last time there I picked the first issue of Vintage Life, a neat combination of old cars, old cameras, old watches and other old things.

I also have some Japanese-market issues of Thrasher plus a mag called Shake. It's a music/fashion mag. What caught my eye was the cover image: Suicidal Tendencies' Mike Muir.
