My son had a birthday party later today and my wife had to go to a baby shower. Didn't want to go out with the kids, as it's such a project. Prime Now to the rescue.. I ordered at 8:30 and the gifts were delivered just after 10. $5 tip to the driver and boom... I'm the laziest man in the world.
It's a pretty awesome service, my first time using it. They deliver condoms and liquor and beer up until midnight.. That's gotta be popular with the younger set.

We don't have Prime Now around here, but we do have Shipt. Grocery delivery from Publix. $35 minimum for free delivery, and prices are 0-20% higher than in the stores, but you easily save the premium on avoiding impulse buys, and also the ability to far more easily hope sales and BOGOs, which Publix has lots of.
If there was a Prime Now-style service for hardware, I would never, ever leave the house. Can you just imagine BoltDepot.com and Online Metals with a 24-hour delivery service? Tightens my pants just thinking about it.

That sounds like garbage, There should be no premium beyond driver tips.
I was speaking with the president of our company and he said they were all hanging out drinking wine when someone said "we need some ice cream". They were all tipsy so no one was going anywhere and so they ordered it through prime now. He said 55 minutes of wine later they were eating ice cream. Interesting concept, not available everywhere just yet but no reason why any decent sized town couldn't have it.
They have bacon. I'm tempted to use it the next time I don't have bacon for sunday breakfast.

Well, let me rephrase. Prices via Shipt are between 0-20% higher than our local Publix prices. Publix is a Southeast chain, but I do notice then I travel that prices vary from store to store. Shipt prices may reflect prices in their home area of Alabama, or some sort of corporate average or high median. I'm pretty attuned to pricing, so I can usually get our total bill pretty close to what it would be in the store.
And in addition to tips, the drivers are also being paid by the company. I suppose that money has to come from somewhere.
I use it all the time. They do hot food here as well. It's pretty much how I manage to run errands and keep swmbo from killing me
Based on the fact that my little city has exactly one uber driver, calling it a hunch that this isn't available here.
Now? He's always been awesome.

Someone has to collect the items and drive them to you. They need to be paid for that time. You work for free?
ehh.. It's a bad customer experience to have to have yearly service fee, which shipt has, an order minimum, and premium's on top of pricing combined with asking for driver tips. There are competitors int he market with simpler models that are more consumer friendly.
I really miss Safeway and their delivery service when I lived in Cali. All my groceries picked out and a scheduled delivery? Awesome. Made making meals for the week and trying new recipes a lot easier as well. Although, drunk me has ordered a few times with the 2 days in advanced scheduling for free shipping, and surprised sober me with deliveries later in the week.
There was a company trying to start contracted delivery, where you'd call in an order for groceries or anything really, and the company would call from a pool of drivers to take care of it, but it never took off. Surprisingly, grubhub is nonexistant in this area as well.
Although if a place spends enough money on the license, they can deliver up to a 12 pack until midnight. Considering beer is finally making it into grocery stores around here, I'd call this a great step forward.

never heard of Shipt, but if Shipt picked up the groceries from Aldi, it'd probably still cost less than going to Publix.

SWMBO has groceries delivered from Von's, a west-coast chain. They charge in-store prices, including specials. Their store pricing is above average locally, but not significantly.
The drivers are expressly forbidden from taking tips. I tried, and the guy told me, "Sir, I'd love to take your money, but it's forbidden. We get mystery shopped all the time, and your $5, while appreciated, isn't worth losing my job over." Now I tell the guy I want to tip him, but I know I can't.
I love Amazone Prime, but I'm never home long enough at a time to worry about groceries. But there is a sandwich shop where I live that besides offering really good wings, also makes a really nice Philly Cheese-steak sammich. They also deliver beer until 2:30am. Sometimes living in a college town offers things that Amazon just can't...
I won't lie, I wish it where near us. But, I guess GR isn't a large enough city (ie, not close enough to a amazon distribution center).
We've only been getting spoiled by Meijer (Midwest equivelent to WalMart, actually older) and their curbside grocery pickup. But, from what I understand, they are trialing delivery on the ritzier side of town.
With a large family, it does take away a stressful chore.

I love prime, used prime now once, when I needed a pair of shoes for a vacation leaving the next day. Had them that night! Great option.
