I don't think it's too impressive really and a cheap V8 swap won't be good on fuel either. Maybe a 4.8 or 5.3 LS-type swap but it's still bulky and frankly more power than I want/need. Perhaps a 3800... Screw it I'll just keep looking at Mazdas.

does not compute- especially when you consider that all that extra power comes with probably no loss in fuel economy compared to the Iron Duke and only a small hit in cornering capability if that matters in a truck...

I don't think the stock rear in a 4-cyl S10 is really going to like living day to day with 300+ lb/ft. There's the trans to swap since that's obviously not going to work. Getting enough tire under the thing with those power levels. Etc.

I'm hoping for a daily driven small truck that can pull average fuel numbers around 30 mpg. V8 S10, even an aluminum 5.3 or whatever should get me the best numbers, probably isn't going to get there, right?

Unless people can't figure out how to use a calculator properly to get MPG's I have seen AUTO LS swaps get 25-27 easily.

EDIT- got to think that a FS gets 17-18 at 6k pounds.... drop off 2k off that.....

I'll be honest here, I really don't want to do a full swap. I don't mind taking the cylinder head off but pulling the shortblock, etc etc... no thanks, at least for now.

in that case just do a complete tune up, new fluids all around and enjoy the resonable MPG you should be getting from the duke in a stripped out s10...

for suspension work and interior work this is a fun thread to check out http://www.pro-touring.com/showthread.php?43374-project-drivabeater&highlight=drivabeater
