Here's a good link to some of their (free) live material: http://www.inkoma.com/pages/my_bloody_valentine.html There's also some cool, between-song banter amongst those tracks. Shields to the Drummer: "We can't afford a drum machine...keeps him off the streets though."

Funny--back in '91 I saw Screaming Trees and My Bloody Valentine open for Dino Jr. at the Ritz in NYC.

I was really unimpressed w/ MBV live, but hearing "Loveless" was another life-changing moment. I wasn't familiar w/ them until after I saw them live, though.

Thanks for the live link. Will check it out.

Ryan Adams - Solo is OK. Whiskeytown was better.

Drive By Truckers - Kick some major ass. Also, every car guy should listen to "Daddy's Cup"

Other Alt-Country - Wilco is good. Son Volt is better. The best is before they split - Uncle Tupelo

Social D - I think Mike Ness's voice might be my favorite part. I don't like "pretty" male vocals. He's the "not-prettiest". I also like Steven Tyler's voice for the same reason.

No metal list is complete without Pantera's "Vulgar Display of Power" or "Chaos AD" by Seplatura

...and I actually owned two Mustang IIs. I love that song. Every deep south native should hear "Where the Devil Won't Stay" and "Ain't Never Gonna Change"

I think Mike Ness's voice is comparable to, but far more listenable than, Tim Armstrong's (of Rancid) voice. Not that Rancid isn't a cool band, too.

Operation Ivy > Rancid. IMHO.

You'd love the Screaming Trees (assuming you don't already know them). Mark Lanegan (singer) has a rough, soulful voice and the songwriting is straightforward rock and roll.

Here's a few clips of them:

Mark Lanegan's solo stuff is pretty good too, check out "Methamphetamine Blues."

I have Whiskey for the Holy Ghost (brilliant), I'll Take Care of You (decent) and Scraps at Midnight (no sir--didn't like it).

Dug what he did w/ Mad Season, too.

I haven't checked out any recent solo stuff. Will check out your suggestion.
