As if building a race car in a parking lot isn't punk rock enough, I've been thinking about something lately- has anybody tried to play live music at the challenge? I know from the music gear threads that we have a decent number of people with some musical inclination.
Maybe we try to get something set up on concours day at the track? I can see the hotel having issues with it, so we probably shouldn't play in their parking lot. I probably can't bring any instruments this year, but if somebody brought a kick drum, snare, hi-hat, and a crash/ride I'd bring sticks- or, maybe more in the spirit of the challenge, we could pick up a cheap craigslist set. Then guitarists/bassists (I can play those too but you'd rather have me on drums, trust me) could bring amps and instruments and plug into a generator or an outlet at the track.
Anybody want to do this? Anybody hate this idea and really not want (probably improvised) music blasting from some corner of the track? I'd even be up for learning a set list if people wanted to have something more organized.
Just throwing the idea out there to see if anyone else was thinking the same thing.
It's going to happen one year, almost happened last year, and everyone is going to want to be there for it when it does...
I brought a DJ one year to The Challenge! Complete with rented, profession subwoofer and speakers.
I have a great memory of similar happening at the Bayview Yacht Club, Detroit and their NOOD Regatta. There was a formal band that played until like 10 on Saturday evening under the big tent and after that a super cool informal thing happened down near the docks with a much younger crowd. Amps were plugged in power outlets on the docks for boats. A simple drum kit was assembled and some jamming went on past midnight.
Personally, I have no musical ability. All I can play is the radio.
do it! I can play guitar power cords, since I was in a high school rock band.
But I am pretty awful at guitar.
I might be able to find my kazoo.

Nah, it’s not a Great Kazoo, only a decent one.
I know an editor who plays marginal guitar and bass....
Can you put the band on a flat bed and auto-X while playing?
For the record, I'm totally cool playing while on a stable surface.
Bump because I still think this is a good idea but still can't bring instruments.

Music on the move?
keep the track width wide enough and it'll still be scca legal for the autocross

Probably a little late to pull it off this year, but we should sit around the pool discussing/planning it for next year!
I’ll punk rock into a mic but i suck at guitar.
Next year half of Interstellar Sledgehammer will be there (shameless band plug), that covers guitar, bass(sorta),drums(even less sorta), sax, piano/keyboards if we wanna try something.
I won’t be there, but I think this is an amazing idea that needs to happen!

No problem. You wont find out too much yet, we are shrouded in mystery for a little while longer, but stay tuned for an album and such
So, did anyone pack any gear for this year's Challenge?
In reply to David S. Wallens :
I can, what should I bring?
FYI electric guitars are only 17000 tickets in the dave and busters reward room.
