Work wants me to upgrade the iphone 5S they got me.
I am generally unimpressed with smartphones. I use them, use apps, but I don't always like it.
I value:
Battery Life
Phone quality
Camera quality
.......
everything else
My choices at $0 are the 16G iphone 6S, the iphone SE, or the Galaxy S7
Someone here knows the answer without a bunch of research.
No knowledge of the Galaxy. If you are used to the iPhone OS though, staying with the devil you know is a pretty solid choice. I have a 64 gig iPhone 6 and have no complaints. If you are burning through battery life try turning down the screen brightness a bit and closing unused apps.
If you don't care about the smart part of a smartphone, the iPhone seems perfect for you! Hardware quality is pretty good and the guy at the "genius bar" might actually be of some use to you with your simple requirements. The iPhone SE has a much better camera but the 6S has a slightly bigger battery.
You don't want the SE it is a "value version" of the Apple products so I figure if your not paying (work is) then skip the SE version.
From there you just have to decide if you want Apple or if you want Android.

You sure about that? I understood the SE to be the 5s with the newer hardware from the 6s (with a few compromises for the smaller form factor of course).

I also value 'fit in the pocket-ness', so if the SE has a better camera that could be a winner over the 6S despite being older.
Corrected:
Yes, The SE is the small version and the 6s the larger version but their capabilities are nearly identical.
In summary: SE if you don't like a big phone. The size of screen is all you will loose.

SE for sure then, even with the same camera. Unless the battery life or camera is way better in Android land, I'll be grabbing a free SE upgrade for my 5S!
Any objections?
(other than really preferring a laptop upgrade rather than a phone upgrade!!)
If this is Verizon. The Droid Maxx2 has an enormous battery. It's shortcomings are so-so camera and 16GB with no SD card

Only choices at all are Galaxy 7, Note 5, iphone 6 SE and iphone 6S
The Notes are huge. I have a 4 and it's really big. I wouldn't get another one because of that. The upside is it's got a really clear display and even now at almost 2 years old, it's still rock solid on performance.
It is great on battery life though. I'll go easily all day being on conference calls for 8-10 hours on a charge without a hiccup. It use to go almost a day and a half when new.
I love my Note5. The camera is incredible. Samsung pay app can be a lifesaver if you forgot your wallet (works on ANY credit card reader you don't insert the card in). The Spen is great for quick notes as well.

The iphones 6's camera is awesome, and I use it often. The iPhone 6 can do some pretty slick stuff with movies (slow-mo), but what I hate is that you can't edit videos on the phone and pull them off via USB.
And that's what annoys me the most about the iPhone. It expects everything to be done via iTunes.
Work bought my 6 so I'm not complaining, but if they offered a high-end Android phone I'd rather take that. I'd love a Google Nexus.
^There's a good and relevant point: Moving files on and off an android phone is vastly simpler than with an iOS phone, where you have to use goddamn iTunes. That means it would be much easier to get pictures off of the Galaxy S7, which works pretty much the same as a USB flash drive from that perspective.
I'm not a big fan of 16GB phone that don't have a MicroSD slot. Cameras on the recent iPhones are good, but they're also pretty big...

I just looked into this recently since I need to update one of my phones also:
I will go with the S7 (edge model for me) and I shop like money is no object. Of all the current stuff it does everything you expect it to like a top of the line smartphone and is well reviewed. The clinchers for me (and, perhaps, you) it has the best camera (especially for low light) a very good battery life (best of your choices by far) and the storage can be upgraded with a cheap and simple to change micro SD card (up to 200 gb each iirc).
Of course, if you know and love Apple well then there is a strong argument to stick with it (I have a couple of them for work and they are good enough). Androids do tend to be a bit more straightforward in my view (and the best ones have much better hardware specs). If the choice is all about hardware and performance I suggest the Galaxy S7. So many phones do so much well that it seems like cross shopping a BMW vs. a Benz vs. a Caddy type situation.

Also, the Galaxy S7 is dust and water resistant. I have experienced how nice that feature is on my older Galaxy and cannot understand why every hand held device isn't waterproofed...
I just got an S7, and had an S5 previously. I've only had it a week. Everything works. I'm happy with it, and was happy with my s5.
I don't feel it's significantly different from my S5. Sort of like get the exact same new car 2 years later.
It does have wireless charging capability, which I like in theory. I've yet to use that yet, to know if it works well in practice.

Great, I order a Iphone SE and you guys are all NOW telling me S7.
Oh well, it's over now. Already ordered.
Sorry, didn't realize you need to make a decision within an hour of posting the thread.

Thanks. I've been thinking of upgrading(?) to the S7, but now I'm not so sure.
Posted from my S5.

Eh, it's not worth agonizing over a pretty trivial decision in my life. I execute quickly when I can!

I don't think that you made any real mistake, you still got a new phone that is very good for anything you can ask of it.
In a couple months they will all have some crazy new awesome feature that we don't even know about yet and everything else will instantly feel obsolete...

I have a Galaxy S6 and coming from a Galaxy S5, I've more than doubled my battery life. My wife upgraded her phone at the same time to a Motorola Turbo II and had a similar battery life experience. There seems to have been a jump in technology and I'd hate to stay on the dumpy battery side.
