I was surprised by the beer comment too... I think that's one us northern boys have the advantage on.

I love Abita Amber and Abita Purple Haze. It's made in Louisiana, so I wouldn't be surprised if you could find it in Georgia. Occasionally I can even find it in Michigan.
BTW, if you're doing down to Georgia, are you looking for a soul to steal?
So, from my reading up and thinking about this, my primary motivations for doing it are:
1) 25% pay bump (albeit temporary) to cover living expenses, which for me, as I can get out of my current residence easily, is all win.
2) SEDiv SCCA looks like pretty much what the SCCA is supposed to be. Plan would be to recruit a co-driver for my Miata E Stock (E Street) car, go to Lincoln ProSolo/Tour, Blytheville ProSolo/Tour, Toledo Pro, Finale and Nationals, as well as whatever ATLSCCA events don't fall on those dates, and then maybe a few Chattanooga, Alabama, and Tennessee Valley region events when I got nothing better to do.
3) SEDiv seems to have tons of PDX and TT, I'd like to get into that and then eventually actual road racing. Seems like the opportunities are nearly limitless. SCCA, Club and Enduro, ChumpCar, it is a perfect storm of me not saving much money.
4) $130,000 buys a heck of a lot of house and garage down in those parts.

While that might have been true once. I'll beg to differ.
Ever since our ex-governor, Sonny Perdue, raised the alcohol limit on beers we've started to see a sort of renaissance of brewing around Georgia, but especially Atlanta. New breweries keep popping up and it's awesome!
My personal favorite. Brewed right in my hood - Decatur.
Also worth mentioning are these upstarts.
(edit - while I liked their Scottish Ale and IPA, I was not a fan of the Belgain Wit. In their defense, I rarely like that type of beer anyway).
drive up the 400 out of ATL. Ends at hwy 19 in Dahlonega. Set shocks to 'firm', continue to Blairsville. Return to Dahlonega, refuel and try to get the grin of your face. Awesome road! Explore 180 and 60 as well.
Don't forget all the wonderful things on Atlanta Craigslist!!

It's another one of The Answers. Figured he didn't need to be reminded of it.
Met a few people at the Northern States Tour from round-about the area in question. They seemed to think Douglasville was pretty nice, said there was a college there? I dunno. Still thinking and researching at this point.
Echoing others' sentiments, thought of you when a buddy of mine in mableton sent me a link to a robbery/murder today. Yeah. berkeley 20W. Homeboy bought at the peak of the market in a new "upper-middle-class" neighborhood. When the economy crashed, it turned "Transitional" and now he's upside-down in a E36 M3 neighborhood. Hate to speak in riddles, but I guess that's what's acceptable to the cock & balls-challenged nowadays. If you don't mind "The Darkness" and the inherent culture of violence and gimme-gimme that comes with it, Douglasville is cheap. If you want your E36 M3 to not get broken into every other weekend, go North, young man, in the "nicest" (read: "Least 'cuturally diverse'") neighborhood you can afford (Marietta) and still be close enough to work that you don't have a gun in your mouth on the ride home every day.
My $.02. YMMV.
Well, this is all but official. I will be moving to the Atlanta metro area. Probably looking to live in Douglasville or Villa Rica, but I haven't ruled out Carrolton.
More importantly, I'm going to be getting more involved in some kind of wheel to wheel racing. Leaning towards SCCA club racing (Spec Miata or IT something, maybe a low effort limited prep production car), but I'm also considering ChumpCar and Dirt Track roundy-round. Any thoughts on that?
Cool! Early Welcome!
Holler at me if you need help unloading a Uhaul etc. You can get your fill of Ga red dirt or ??? http://www.racingin.com/Track/trackmaps.aspx
tuna said: You get to say things like "How's Momma?" to ask how a persons family is doing. Fast food breakfast type sandwiches are called "Biscuits" and you can say "that dog'll hunt".
let me make a couple of correction's, please with no offense, "How's Momma?" shoud be "hosemommanem" which translates to "How is your rmother and them". (them being the rest of your family), they are called biscuits because it is normally a type of meat (chicken, steak, bacon etc) serrved on a Biscuit, and finally "that dog will hunt" I have never heard it said like that, the most used statement is "atdawgwanthunt" which translate to "that dog will not hunt", meaning to say what ever you are trying to do will not work.
