Wow, in my world $82k is a car. I have no clue where to even look to find a house in that range.

Probably in places like West Virginia, Kansas, Montana. Areas that aren't trendy and up coming.
I come from the Great Plains/Midwest and it's always been a subject of amazement to see Coast people featured on those "Fix or Buy" house shows. Smallish suburban homes that would have (pre-COVID) gone for $200k were like $1m. $1m in our world was "everything you've always wanted in a massive house, yard, and neighborhood"
