So yeah, some has cut my cable twice in the last 5 days on purpose. I don't know if it's someone who is disgruntled about my company or if it's someone who works for my company that's being a dickhead.
The first time was on Saturday. Neither of us were home and it happened during that time. Wife got home told me everything was out. Got home around 10 pm and ended up spending an hour running a new drop. My house sits across the alley from the pedestal, so my drop runs up the pole next to the ped and aerial across the alley. They had cut it about 10 feet up the pole and at the base of the pole. Ran a new drop, made it nice, etc, etc.
I was home for three days after that. I went back to work yesterday, get a call from my wife after she got home from work that every thing was out again.
Great.
I get home and nothing looks like it has been touched. When I installed the new drop, I installed a cable guard which mounts to the pole to keep the cable from getting damaged from weed eaters and such at the base. I grabbed the cable coming out of the cable guard and it comes right out. Awesome. Then I went into the ped and it was cut it again flush to the ground. So, this time they tried to be sneaky about it. I decided to file a police report with the County Sheriff.
So it's repaired again. We'll see what happens now. I put 12 feet of cable guard on the pole, hopefully that's enough of a deterrent, but my peds latch is broken, so it doesn't lock.
The supervisor at the local office did me a favor and checked all the GPS trackers to see if anyone was there, but he said that no one has been to my house.
I hate people.
Game camera to catch the shiny happy person in the act next time they visit.
Run a copper line painted black and wire it into a spare breaker in the electrical box in your basement.
run 1000 lines.
Let them figure out which one is the cable.

A combination of these two. Run 100 wires and make 99 of them "hot".
Actually, as "harmless" as cutting a cable wire is, this would creep me the hell out. Once could be a kid playing a prank. Twice is "odd". When it happens repeatedly it shows someone has a standing problem with you specifically and some anger issues that they haven't sorted out. I'm glad you filed a police report.
I'd be in ".45ACP and a pot of coffee" mode until I at least knew who it was and why.
If I understand, this person is comfortable/risk tolerant/motivated enough to wield a ladder and to come back twice. That's the frightening part for me.
I'm voting for cameras and some hardening of the household. Valuables might need to spend a little time elsewhere. An alarm might need to go in. You might want to look into cloud monitoring services to watch your internet router uptime.

If they're taking the wire, they're stealing it for scrap, and you're likely not the only one it's happening to. If they're leaving it there, someone is being a dickwad.
Both should probably involve the police.

I agree here. I am not juvenile enough to even do it once.. but I can see where somebody could do it if they were mad enough at you and knew they would not get caught. But twice enters into a different realm. This is a person who is persistent. If they do it a third time, you have a serious problem on your hands that deserves to be handled by professionals

Disclaimer: I haven't used this service yet. I plan to, but haven't yet. Boundary offers free monitoring of systems on the internet. You may be able to get it to watch your internet router and tell your cell phone when your home connection drops.
Good luck.
I wonder if SBF had his cable cut again...

I'm in the camera business. We don't sell game cameras, but suggest them regularly. Go for it, they are cheap and work perfectly for your application.
Do game cameras use a flash or night vision?
They have both I would defiantly not use the flash kind

Depends on the camera. Less expensive ones use flash. More expensive can use IR.
If this were happening at night I might set up like five of the flash variety. So they all go off at the same time. Shock and awe.

Generally this level of pissed-off behavior would not be for some obscure unwarranted slight. I would expect that if I pissed someone off to this extent I would know who it was cause I most likely did it on purpose.

I think an obvious one with a flash... and then see if this shiny happy person goes after it with the others
I always just figured if they see the flash they will just steal the camera, or at least smash it
Definitely go stealth with the camera. Rig up a motion detecting spotlight if you don't want to spring for the ir camera. He might just assume the light was your only security measure and not see the camera if it is well hidden.
Sucks that someone would do this, but I agree, the balls to do it more than once implies an aggressive person with anger and boundary issues. Sound like anyone you know?

Is there a specific one that you recommend?
