I need to rewatch R1. I honestly haven't seen it since ts release. Knowing how it ended (or thinking I knew) just killed the whole thing for me. Much like Ep.3, though going back to that one after the fact was really cool and aside from Heydont Actagain and GL's bad directing was ,IMO, a great flick. Tonight is Ep. 3 and maybe tomorrow I'll watch R1. trying to get them all in before I see RoS on the 23rd.
My dad took me to see New Hope in a theater and R 1 is my favorite of the bunch.
Bought tickets online for a 4:50 matinee opening day this Tuesday. NO ONE else had bought any tickets in that theater yet.
I've got a bad feeling about this.

My son and I are going tomorrow night at 10pm. The reviews so far are certainly mixed, but I'm still going in with guarded optimism.
Never tell me the odds!

Three theaters in my town showing the thing. I waited until last friday to buy. Completely sold out until monday 23rd. Unless I wanted a 1030pm, but kids.
Sounds like the initial reviews are.... brutal....
Not that that maters much to most viewers, but for those who would appreciate a reasonable story, maybe so.
Look at it this way: If you go into it with low expectations, it will be hard to be disappointed.

I was happy to see Harris return as a Space Ghost for this movie.
But I still don't know whether Mal and Inara actually hooked up, or if it was all a Dream Sequence...

I had 501st Legion members that were invited to the red carpet premiere. I watched it on Youtube. Maybe biased but I've seen a lot of good comments. But believe it or not we have members that actually disliked ep 8, so it is what it is. (Maybe life was better before the internet when everyone had an opinion to share, repeatedly, and you just made up your own mind.)
It sounds like a casual fan will be entertained just fine, a more knowledgeable fan might be a bit miffed by the attempt to cover all the plot lines.
It does not though, sound like they went full GOT for this final episode.

Meanwhile, I've heard the opposite: that it's mostly fan service and little general interest story.
I'll decide when I see it.

In reply to The0retical :
The GOT books are like that, too, except that 7 and 8 don't even exist.

It's neither. 9 ignores or changes basically everything the first 8 movies set up and is basically a non-stop collage of video game cut scenes. People who just like movies were not happy because the story was just MacGuffin after MacGuffin with no payoff and Disney trilogy fans were not happy because it does basically nothing with the stories from 7/8 and the overall Star Wars fans aren't happy because of the retconning it does to 1-8.
In reply to Javelin :
So it's a mess just like every other mess masquerading as a movie JJ Abrams has ever been involved in.
Who could have seen that coming?
It should go without saying, but since this hot mess comes out tonight and not all of us will be there at midnight, please NO SPOILERS! We can start another thread for that.
I’m seeing it on Sunday. I’ll reserve judgement until then. Worst case it’ll be an entertaining movie. In any case I don’t expect it to change my life. It’s a movie.
I am going on Sunday night. I'm not going in with high hopes for a classic. I felt 7 and 8 were rehashes of 4 and 5 or at least the same feel to the story. Like I had seen this before. Disney blew this whole thing by not doing the Thrawn Trilogy and so I feel like just end it and give us other side stories. Maybe a couple about the bounty hunters or the smugglers. I have been watching Mandolorian and have been a little disappointed in it. I'm also so done with the Baby Yoda.....UGH!

Have you seen it?
I've watched the spoilers and leaked footage, I know the entire story.
It's still a little hard to take your criticisms seriously when you haven't seen the movie. You're clearly not going to give the movie a "fair shot," so to speak. You could at least try to enjoy it, as a movie, instead of watching the spoilers, leaked footage, etc, and writing it off before ever even seeing it.
In reply to Javelin :
I watched spoilers and leaks for months leading up to TLJ. They were all pretty much the same thing and I figured a consensus should be reliable. Nobody got it right. Not even close. Could be different this time though.

A few random bits, not actually seen the movie itself, and probably opinions of someone else who also hasn't seen the actual movie. But you have a strong opinion and review to share for the class. Got it.

Y'all aren't getting it. Someone at Lucasfilm leaked the entire movie. Start to finish. Everything. Those leaks were 100% verified at the premiere. Like every single detail down to the run time and opening crawl.
I mean you don't have to take my word for it and if you want to see it then by all means go. As a die-hard lifelong Star Wars fan though, I'm just saying don't bring any expectations, regardless if whether you thought TLJ was great or garbage.

You're making that hard by spewing your opinion everywhere.
And to be clear, you have seen the movie?
