A former Florida teacher was sentenced to 22 years in prison Thursday for having sex dozens of times with three of her students — with one of her trysts leading to her getting an abortion.

"I wish I could go back and remove what I have done," a tearful Jennifer Fichter, 30, said in court Thursday, according to WFTS. "I hate what I have done. I wish I could go back and think about (the victims) before me."

But the victims' parents remained unforgiving.

"It hurts," one mother told the court. "I saw myself losing my son before my very eyes and there was nothing I could do to reach him."

Fichter had forced her victims, who were all 17 at the time, to lie to their parents about the illegal encounters. She also used aliases when texting the boys to try covering up her sex crimes.

In a recorded phone call played in court, the ex-English teacher admitted to aborting a pregnancy with one of her victims, WTSP reported.

Fichter faced up to 15 years for each of the counts she pleaded guilty to.

She was arrested in April 2014 after admitting to having sex with a student 20 to 30 timesin her truck, in various parking lots. During their investigation into Fichter, police learned she had also had sex with two other students.

The earliest incident dates back to 2008, when she resigned from a teaching post in Orange County after allegations of inappropriate contact with an 8th grader — only to be hired at Central Florida Aerospace Academy, in a different county, in 2011. She had sex with one student on the school's roof.

This never happened to me.

What mostly strikes me as berkeleyed up is that in my state, that wouldn't have even been a crime. Grounds for being fired? Sure. Anything you could charge her with? Nope.

They were 17 fer chrissakes. Months away from being able to legally tap dat azz. She must have the worst lawyer in history. Isn't there some sort of age of consent in FL? I think it's 7 in neighboring Alabama

It's only 7 in Alabama if it's a direct relative

She probably would have gotten less time if she shot them.

While I wish I had a teacher like that in high school, if this were a male teacher with female students, everyone here would be ok with that sentencing, calling him a rapist and child molester.

Sounds like a predator to me, if it were a male teacher and the same amount of female students dude would be called a monster. Everyone says they're for equality, I say she should get the same amount of time a man would have gotten in the same circumstance. Hell, my son is going to be in the 8th grade soon, she had inappropriate contact with an 8th grader in 2008 according to the above story, I wouldn't be ok with that.

I will say, however, if I was a student at 17 and she made a move on me, I would not have objected whatsoever.

While I do the the penalty is overly harsh there needs to be something to get teachers from berkeleying their students.

Given the power disparity in the "relationship" no matter how much we men think it would have been fun back in the day to bang the hot teacher it just isn't something that should happen. Learn to wait a year and have the time of your life when the kid graduates.

I don't disagree with that, but these cases, male or female teacher, don't seem to read as forceful copulation as much as two consenting people, with one party not legally able to consent due to age. The argument could be made that the emotional "damage" would be greater for female victims whereas the males would be more victor than victim. The argument could be made that some people mature earlier than others and it should be taken on a case by case basis. The case can also be be made that some of these minors may be pursuer and instigator and the adult succumbed to temptation. The simple fact is that these are children and not emotionally mature enough make that decision so we as adults made laws to protect them and teachers are expected to treat their bond with students in a higher regard. Even more so in this day an age where it seems most of the youth stay in the "kid" mindset into their twenties, we as a society seem to be churning out some real winners.

So in states that have legal age of consent of 16, do they think that their children mature faster? Or do they just not care as much?

16 is only the age of consent, and that is parental consent until they turn 18.

Only exception to that is if both parties are considered high school aged(15-18) and that only prevents the 18 yo from getting nailed as a sex offender.

22 years still seems like a lot. A quick check of the Google doesn't bring up many teachers, male or female, getting that kind of time even under worse circumstances.

I'd say neither. Perhaps the age of consent in those states were established back when our life expectancy was much much shorter? Or perhaps they made the determination based on their local culture and accepted practices? Perhaps there are nuances such as Yamaha mentioned. I really can't speak to that. I'm only saying if someone breaks the law, and we're for equality, then we shouldn't have different penalties depending on what sex of the offender is.

The most surprising thing to me is that Florida age of consent is 18.

HiTempguy, why is it that every post (ok, not every post but a lot) have some sort of knock on the US? It gets annoying. Do we do it against the Canadians? (Really, do we? I don't know). It really seems like you have been sorely wronged by this country. It is really berkeleying annoying.

Now, that being said, I do agree with the post--why is she getting 22 years and Bill Cosby is not behind bars with his nuts in a vice?

If I was the judge, I’d start her off with probation but then bring the three guys into the court room and have them each write her a one-page love letter.

I’d have the letters assessed based on High School written proficiency standards and sentence her to one year in prison for each mistake found.

So this "teacher" got impregnated by a 17 year old. (one of a few she was screwing--- that we know about) This means she was having unprotected sex with these boys. Now, I'm sure these kids are the first of her conquests (sarcasm ) ......I'm also sure---- she has always made wise decisions before when it comes to sex. So what are the chances that these kids will now have to live with STDs that this "teacher" has given to them?

These were kids---heros no doubt to their classmates--but still kids. She used her power of authority to fulfill her own needs----she should be in jail. These kids will no doubt have a warped idea of what a relationship should be.....and there's a better than good chance that they now will pass along nasty diseases to their new girlfriends. And she had an incident with an 8th grader? Sorry, that's pedophilia.

Besides---- she'll probably get out in a few years on good behavior after she "tutors" a few prison guards.

I often rant against the Canadians. I find the extra "U" they slip into words infuriating. "Tyre" is also somewhat enraging but not as much as that damned U. I don't know if the U's are a byproduct of maple syrup production they don't know how to dispose of or our punishment for shunning the metric system but if I could get one feature on my next computer it would be something to translate Canadian into Proper American English spelled the way God and Richard Petty intended it.
