You guys are really not understanding the nature of a rapist. Rape is not about love or even sexuality, it's about the rapist imposing their will on someone else.
While my 34 year old self thinks she's not bad looking, my 17 year old self would probably find her as sexy as this chick:
Further more, you see this situation as your mature self in control. But those kids aren't. They probably didn't even know that they could say no. Imagine if she came to you with a huge 12" strap-on and told you to bend over and take a deep breath. Would you still think you were so lucky?
A girl like that shouldn't have any problems finding herself a handsome boyfriend her age. She doesn't because she has deep issues.
I'm not saying she was right and doesn't belong in jail. Just that anything over 10 years is usually reserved for cop killers.

Actually, I've seen some research lately that suggests this is not inherently the case as has been thought in the past. It has had a hard time getting through because it is such an emotional topic that people immediately throw it out, but sometimes it is sexual and not a power-hungry type of deal.
I'll have to look for that when I get home. I think it was also on NPR a little while back.

Thanks a lot buddy, I'm trying to eat over here.

Wait until you get close to 50... you can find yourself thinking ... well at least the chick in the photo's mouth isn't too dry... How many years am I from rationalizing the strap-on as a tradeoff!?
Meanwhile, across town, two teenagers have slapped a third around to teach him a lesson about "ruining a good thing"
Oh Wally, you need to get back out of the house dude.

HiTempguy, why is it that every post (ok, not every post but a lot) have some sort of knock on the US?
I was actually knocking north American society in general my man. I'm a critical human-being, trust me, I spare Canada no quarter in my disdain for some of the things we do! A chick got a year in jail for irresponsibly pulling over in the fast lane to save some ducks and a motorcyclist died, and yet a drunk cement truck driver who killed a family of 5 and when he hopped out of the truck took a big swig of alcohol and threw the bottle into the cement mixer got about the same sentence. Its frustrating.
All I pointed out was you guys do have it rough down there, having to be over the age of 18 for consensual sex is (you have to admit) a fairly backwards law, most 1st world nations don't have that on the books anymore.
I'll try to be more constructive for you though I will admit, I have a lot of time on my hands at work right now, it probably reflects in my internet persona lol

The only research I have seen that contradicts this his where past rap victims start to associate sex with rape because that was their first contact with sexuality.
If you have anything new, I would be curious to read it.
And sorry to everyone that was eating.

I'll have to look for it while I'm not at work. Basically though, it was two guys who said "You know what? This doesn't sound right. Let's look into it" and found that it wasn't an inherant trait of rapists that it was all for power.
In reply to fanfoy:
Typos are awesome. I know many past rap victims. ...

Why is it always the ones who look like they wouldn't have any trouble getting some closer to their own age who sleep with their students?

Good question, I'd probably of tagged it at 17, and probably still would.
We had a teacher that ended up marrying a student shortly after they graduated at my high school. Only 4 years difference in age. Amusingly enough, they both teach at the same school now.
Isn't this more about statutory rape which is different than forced rape ?
I'm sure the boys weren't forced.
