.....NEVER sample your own stuff.
Some folks know I'm a stereo and audiophile-nerd-dork-whatever. Well, in three days I bought two sets of speakers (in addition to the 5.1 system, 2.1 system, and 3 other pairs I have in the house right now).
The first set I purchased last friday was to flip. They are good, very good speakers (Design Acoustics PS-10a) that had foam rot. I got them for a very good price.
The second set was one I've wanted for a long time (Ohm Walsh 2) simply because they are weird, and have a reputation for being way, way better than the size, design, and price would lead you to believe.
Well, I hooked up the Ohm Walsh 2s and recalibrated the room and.....WOW!! These things are just amazing. I don't want to sell them. So, I put them away, replaced the foam on the PS-10a's last night. I connected them a few hours ago. I didn't have high hopes for them because the woofers are pretty small, and so is the cabinet.
I'm sure you can see where this is going. They sound GREAT!
So, here I am with two more sets of speakers that I don't have the room for, don't have the extra amps for them, and do NOT have the spousal approval for. I should have just listed them for sale without listening to them.
TLDR: I bought speakers to flip, listened to them, and am thinking about buying a second house just for speakers.

Sounds familiar, haha. My dad has about 20 sets of speaker projects around the house in various states of completion. Drives my mom nuts...

Building tube amps are easier to hide and take up less space.
"I bought a parts car but it was too nice so I'm driving it now"
Sorry, I just got a google home mini from my son as an upgrade for my home stereo system because otherwise we listened to my iPhone on Pandora.

I am very close to taking on a tube project. My resistance is growing weak.....
I have an old Kenwood system that we haven’t used for years because we threw out the old speakers and haven’t made it to the store to buy new ones.

When you start getting your parts list together please give me a shout, I can likely give you a head start on parts. Tubes at the very least if you aren't opposed to old stock.

That's exactly what I thought.

Hey, if you want to come grab a pair (or both) just to give them a listen, gimme a call.
I'm not trying to sell them to you. I just think both of these are right up your alley

Whatever you do, do NOT post a link that I could follow that would start me down the rabbit hole....
"they don't care if you live or die". Not being morbid. Easy Rider was on terrestrial t.v. the other day.
Why do you guys have to bring this stuff up. My dad offered ma a tube amp/tuner that he built from a kit. He home built the face plate from a piece of aluminum. The cover is a brake formed piece of 1/4 inch hardware cloth. It is in his basement someplace. He offered it to me a while back. I was six when he built it. He let me help but looking back on it I think I was really in the way. He and I must have made dozens of trips to the local radio shack testing a buying tubes and other parts for it.
Now I need to go find that thing.
EDIT: thinking back I think it may be mono as if I remember it was wired to a single speaker box that was about three feet square and four feet tall.
The number one rule is: the propellor must be in the back.

I find the omni stuff fascinating. They often don't measure well, but can have a really nice warm sound.
Over the holidays I built a small set of BR monitors fo the living room with a pair of Aura NS3's. Moved the existing cabinets to the spare room so i could mount some Mark audio drivers for the 100 hr break in they recommend. Listened to the TABAQ MLTL's I have in the shop while drawing up a set of MLTL's with some sparre ND105's to use under my Brios. And wondered what I was going to do with the Marchand and Crimson amps I rediscovered while looking for the 105's.
You're not the only one.
The bass pushers in my ESS Heils need reconing and perhaps even new cabinets.......not sure where to start.

The first link ia the guys blog about the amp and the second is the forum thread discussing it.
Relatively cheap components, low part count for a stereo amp, and decent power* to distortion.
*Good power for single ended amps and high efficiency speakers

Those are all good problems to have, my friend.

ohms are nice speakers.
They are. My only experience with these prior to now ws repairing a pair of the Model Fs some years ago (what a challenge!).
These really sound great. Warmer than my magnepans, and enough low end that I only want a sub for movies. They are listed for sale, but if they don't sell fkr the listed price.....

Funny I saw a set of Magnepans at the local Habitat for Humanity resale store today and thought of you all and your audiophile threads. They wanted $675 for them and they must be very bit of six feet tall. I am ashamed to say I do not recall the model number but they were far from new, but still looked impressive.
I want to own a set of Walshes one day. They’re cool.
