As a Marine, he gave up a lot of the rights as a citizen for the length of his service.
Lots of people forget that.
(not sure if he was on active duty when he posted or not, I might be confusing this with another case)

Right. How many of these backwater news sources follow up on stories that don't go their way?
I mean, what if it happens that this dude had bought bomb making materials, threatened local police, and was planning on shooting up a school as written on private message boards?
I'm sure many of these conspiracy laden new sources like "infowars" would let the story die very quickly.

That's what I was thinking, it could explain why he wasn't read his rights.
Police and FBI agents arrived at Raub’s home, asking to speak with him about his Facebook posts. They did not provide Raub with a search warrant. Raub was cooperative and agreed to speak with them. Without providing any explanation, levying any charges against Raub or reading him his rights, law enforcement officials then handcuffed Raub and transported him first to the police headquarters, then to John Randolph Medical Center, where he was held against his will. Outraged onlookers filmed the arrest and posted the footage to YouTube. Law enforcement officials have stated in press reports that Raub was not arrested. However, attorney John Whitehead pointed out that if the police have put handcuffs on you and you’re being held against your will that qualifies as an arrest. In a hearing before a special justice today, government officials again pointed to Raub’s Facebook posts as the SOLE reason for their concern and for his CONTINUED INCARCERATION. Ignoring Raub’s explanations about the fact that the Facebook posts were being read out of context and his attorney’s first amendment defense, the special justice agreed that Raub should be incarcerated at a VA hospital for up to 30 more days.
Unless the reporter is out-and-out lying, the bolded bits can be regarded as accurate. Please show me where:
A). Theres room in that section for a "backwater" reporter to slant the information being reported
B). Theres any way for this to not be regarded as a violation of the "suspects" civil liberties
Im not trolling, Im not hating, no foam is dripping from my mouth in rabid rage. Im interested in hearing the rebuttal of those who disagree with me.
What's really sad is that more and more of these kinds of news stories are going to pop up before November. It's all about getting you mad about something before you vote.
On a relative basis, life here does not suck nearly as bad as some of you like to think it does.

And I think we all know who will be posting them here.

Then you get a warrant and charge him with a crime. That is what the constitution gives us as citizens the right to. Unlike here where, he has been arrested and had his house searched without a warrant.

Talking points or not, is this true or false?
PHeller wrote: He was arrested on a mental health warrant. I don't think he will be charged with any crimes.
Its been clearly stated by law enforcement that he was not arrested...at least not formally. Its been clearly stated that he was never served a warrant.

True, but I see on other boards where both sides will try to incite riots.
it would be a lot better if we all recognize that 95% of the posters here have already decided what to do in November, regardless of what anyone else says or tries to make them think. (note- what to do does not mean how to vote- some will choose NOT to, which is totally fine- it is a free country )
I'm going to try my best not to post banter like that.
Funny how I posted a nearly identical article a few months ago about a Marine who was DD'd for anti-pooklobama facebook posts and got 3 pages of "YOU CAN'T SAY ANYTHING BAD ABOUT THE PRESIDENT WHEN UR IN THUH MILITARY, STOOPID!"

Looks like false, according to the federal government.
PHeller wrote: He was arrested on a mental health warrant.
Then where are the other pieces to the puzzle? I mean just because he is military or ex-military give him a strike against him for what he says? A mental health warrant means he has a plan, method, and means. So far, he has at least one part missing that I am seeing.

Wasn't that about a guy who said he was going to refuse to take orders from his superiors?

Raub was taken in for an emergency mental health evaluation after the FBI came to his Chesterfield County home because of concerns over his FB postings.
This is called an emergency detention order, or a green warrant, and it is to evaluate someone who is believed to be a threat to themselves or others. The officers who went to his house felt that was the case, according to a statement from the Chesterfield County Police Department.

Now that I look at it a little more, the quoted executive order numbers correspond to those issued by Ford, Kennedy, Johnson, and Nixon.

In not so many words. Apparently he said "I refuse to take orders from this President," then went back and edited it. Regardless, he was being watched because he was not an obama worshipper. Whatever. I just think it's funny. Carry on with your suicide bomb of a thread.

I don't always agree with you, but when I do, it's statements like this.
Side note: It's getting kinda funny seeing threads like this to me. I can almost always know ahead of time who is going to fall where on the matter and partisan-up almost immediately. There are a couple of wild cards, but for the most part it's pretty predictable.
In reply to PHeller:
Ok, that is all well and good, but do the postings match what they found? If someone professes the need to do harm to someone with a bazooka, but only find a Kbar knife, doesn't establish a clear intent to do harm. There is an intent to do harm, but if you look through all the psych cases out there of "wacko's", you will find they do not deviate from their established plan. If someone wants to use a knife, they will use a knife, not a piece of rope, gun, or anything else.
