I've been through this before...

Moral of the story is you lose. She's not going to change how she drives and you're the shiny happy person for suggesting such a thing is even possible.

If she wants to drive a E36 M3box then let her. Don't do anything to the car and let her sleep in the bed she made.

These things happen. Some people are better at taking care of their stuff, but even the most meticulous can get into a situation where the wheel just gets curbed, particularly in urban parallel parking situations.

And the reason she doesn't tell you is because you're a jerk when she does, so she doesn't. You get mad anyway. Why would she tell you?

Take a step back and look at the total package. I'm sure your wife has a great many endearing characteristics. For one, she puts up with YOU!

This is one of the reasons I think (in a round about way) seperate bank accounts are so good. Oh, you trashed your new car because you were being a mouthbreather? That sucks, guess you'll have to deal with it.

Monsieur poop, that E36 M3 would drive me nuts. I take utmost care of my stuff.

Unless the rim is bent I'd leave it alone since it's obviously going to keep happening.

keep this in mind when car shopping as well. don't push her into a fancy euro sedan/wagon with low pro tires and curb checkable wheels.

if she wants a cuv'ish terd with balloony tires (read protects wheels..) and more ground clearance (read no worry aboutparking too close to curbs) etc. then let hers be hers.

My wife is excellent at curbing wheels. Thankfully she hasn't hit the house with her Volvo. She rubbed her previous two cars up against the brick backing out of the driveway (driveway runs past the side of house to the garage out back).

I feel your pain.

Sounds like you need to put some cheap street wheels on it.

E36 M3 happens. Good, bad, indifferent, it just does. Yes, I've had these same shouting matches with my wife...she's scraped the side of the garage several times (it's been at least 5 years since the last time, I think she's due). But all in all, she does her best. She's a car girl, and likes her Honda Fit. She keeps it clean inside, and I do the washing, oil changes, etc...

You should see the inside of our minivan, after 5 years and 70,000 miles of hauling three young children plus all kinds of crap in the back. The outside ain't much better, having had several nannies driving it over the years.

Take a deep breath, count to 10. Yep, it blows. But decide if it's worth fixing and move on.

EDIT TO YOUR EDIT: Good, glad to hear it. Luckily Fit rims aren't super expensive...or it's a good excuse to upgrade.

Should've done this on day one. Damage is done now.

It is also worth noting that I hit the house with the Explorer, and almost killed a Canadian in the process...so I guess a curbed wheel isn't so bad.

I don't make a habit of talking E36 M3 about the wife. She is awesome, and generally takes really good care of our "stuff." Cars just aren't as important as her as they are to me.

Today, walking out of the office, I heard a horrible nails on chalkboard screech. I turn to see a lady real estate agent, in her new Chrysler, grinding both right wheels on the curb while she obliviously chats on her telephone. After lunch I inspected her new Chrysler, all 4 wheels are beat to hell.

I don't think I've ever curbed a wheel to be honest. I don't think I even know how to curb a wheel. I've hit curb with tire before. Maybe it's because all my tires on all my cars have been balloony tires.

If this was me hearing and seeing this......my brain would instantly say "excellent" to myself and I would watch and then say to myself "ouch, that's gotta hurt" and then I would laugh. The cell phone seals the humor in this for me.

I wonder if I am deranged.

Women don't care if wheels get curbed. They know men get mad at them for it, but they really have no idea why it is bad. And it is impossible to get them to understand or care.

Next time she asks you to hold her purse you could just scrape it against the brick wall as you walk

You have to use positive reinforcement. Everytime she comes home with the wheels in good shape you give her a treat and praise her. It is the same deal when trying to keep her from E36 M3ting in the house.

My wife has curbed the wheels on her Pilot. It has dadgum 70 series balloon tires. But yet, she managed.

I should talk......I tried to park the Accord really close to a curb on the passenger side and scraped my plastic hub cap on the edge against the curb. Not bad but I felt like a total idiot.
