Being from the Chicago area everything is looked at as being a scam. Is this a scam? I doubt it but I always wonder the angle on everything in life.
I am renting her car for the last Friday in March for 24 hours. Since I won't be buying a cool car I can at least have a fun day with the car.

Full report on April Fool's Day. If all goes well I might try to rent for a 2 day period and shoot up to Road America for a long day.

That looks like an incredibly good idea.
I think it would be a bad idea to take any rented hot rod to road america - unless you can buy it when you ball it up :) Otherwise enjoy it!
I kind of doubt the rental agreement lets you drive it on track. I’d be pissed if someone did that to my car.
Damn, I looked up Turo locally and found something that I am finding hard to resist. Not to race mind you, just for a nice Sunday drive.
I would drive TO Road America and back. It’s 360 miles round trip. I would never take it on the track.
The Kettle Moraine area around central Wisconsin is beautiful to drive through and visit.
I’ll be the dissenting vote. I say “Lessor beware!” If Michelle doesn’t want people beating the piss out of her car, she shouldn’t be renting it out.
If you were borrowing a friend’s car, that’d be different.
Today is the day. You need to know I’ve never owned a car like this. These type of cars are new to me. I owned a Datsun 310GX which is the son of the F10. I didn’t expect this
Impressions? Rocket, loud, fast, tons of torque and power, seats are incredible, all you’ve read is true.
Odd things - I’m tall so the rain guards are in the way and the tires pick up a lot of little gravel pieces. Two junior high boys told me they liked my car near a restaurant causing my high school daughter to roll her eyes. Wifey likes it too.
I think the look grows on you. I like the way it looks. I want one.

I looked on Turo in my area. There's literally nothing.
Turo is a very, very cool thing. I've autocrossed three different vehicles I rented through Turo and every one was well worth the money spent. I may make a more extensive post when I'm past the statute of limitations.
Trying a car through Turo makes loads of sense if you're considering buying a similar car as well.
Wifey took it around the block - she was totally pumped but it is too much Boy Racer for her. She said we might need a fun car.
I was totally amazed her manual tranny skills came right back and she was a shifting demon - like sex and bicycles I told her - then I tried to talk her into sex.......but not in the car.
looked around my area, there are a few tesla model s for around 170-200 a day. would be fun to drive one of those for a day just to see what they are like

Did you work this out with the owner? For instance, the “Michelle’s civic type r” states they will “drive around the block with you to assess your manual trans skills”. That must mean you meet up with the owner at some point. There’s no way someone is just going to let a stranger thrash on their tires, engine, or transmission.

You don't say a damn thing and make sure it's very clean when you return it.
Michelle checked to see if I could drive stick. I did drive aggressively but was cautious because I didn’t want a ticket or to destroy somebody else’s car.
It was a blast to fly around but I didn’t want to push my luck. When the car accelerated to 80mph in mere seconds I learned to quickly shut it down. Brembo’s....
Anyone want to give a stab at the business case here? In this I stance. I would think Michelle is making a profit every month greater than the depreciation cost.
I'm wondering this is an instance where you end up a free car at 3 years and 60k miles ish...
What the deal with the insurance on a Truro rental?
Does the owner need to carry special insurance, or is it the renters responsibility?
In reply to NordicSaab :
The guy before me put four large chips in one of the $650 wheels - the web is saying the $1200 set of tires only lasts 10-20,000 miles? What about those brakes? I left a lot of dust on the wheels - I felt I needed to see how quickly I can also stop - what do those cost?
I am not sure I can see a profit but in the end you might be right.

You can use your own but I upgraded for the basic insurance for $12.00. There was a higher level insurance for $24-ish? I wonder if his insurance lady knows he rents this car out since the renter is responsible for damage.

They definitely look better in person, IMO. The interior, however, leaves a lot to be desired. I didn't realize until a couple weeks ago, when I met a buddy who has one, that regardless of what the exterior color is, the interior has RED Vatozone APC "accents" everywhere.
Handling was great, but damn, if only they could've put that motor in the previous generation Fit and called it a day. You can (or I could, anyway,) tell the car weighs 3,000+ lbs. I wasn't as impressed with the acceleration as I thought I'd be.
Not a "hater." I wanted to love it. It left me "meh," though I'd love to wring one out on track/at an autocross.

I'm sorry to tell you about the rule. Now that you have mentioned a good idea (Type R motor in the Fit) you simply must do it. We expect a build thread within a week.

I'm still a little nervous about renting with Turo.
It seems like things can get dicey in an insurance situation. For example, you wreck a Turo-Owner car, you pay your deductible to fix their car, but most insurance companies won't pay for the owner's rental or really do much to try and help them fix the car. Also, because many of these cheaper cars can be in bad shape they may not get the same type of payout.
That being said, the ability to rent a larger vehicle for our upcoming trip to Orlando is pretty tempting...
