Well, I'm using a windows machine now since I can't afford a Mac yet (sux!). So, either I have a virus (or 70) or it's just the normal Microsoft handicap but my E36M3 laptop is running like crapola. My question is this, where can I find some decent free virus detection and protection software?
Try http://www.free-av.com/ - I've been using it for years on personal machines and my wife's laptop and it's one of the better, if not best free scanners.
In fact I like it so much I'm planning to buy the payware version for the Windows 7 install I'm currently putting together.
avg free from download.com is great and malwarebytes anti malware also available on download.com works wonders on maintaining and cleaning a PC of viruses.
I use the previously mentioned and excellent AVG along with- "Malwarebytes anti malware", and "Spybot search and destroy"
I have had a fair number of instances where one of them finds something the other two do not and have not has a problem that cost me any times in years. There are more good ones but I figure 3 different ones covers it pretty well.
+1 for Avast. I have been using it, and installing it for people for years and have yet to have a complaint.
Here is what is I use to protect and CLEAN many, many machines.
The AVG as previously mentioned. In fact, I run the Business Paid edition for my office
http://www.malwarebytes.com Excellent anti-malware utility
for the really hard bugger? combofix.
Download from here only!: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/combofix/how-to-use-combofix
AVG has turned to bloatware. I use Avira Antivir. It always ranks the best at detection, especially with stuff that's still "in the wild." The free version has a nag screen on update, but I don't think that's a big deal for such a good piece of software.
Ok, my computer has avast on it. I keep getting this pop-up that says my anti-virus is turned off, but I see no way of turning it on.
u gots spywarz..
http://www.pandasecurity.com/homeusers/solutions/activescan/ <--- try panda online scan. It is free and works.
