The answer is always:

- A bunch of dudes who haven't shaved since the 70s will post pics of dudes with beards with funny slogans belittling the metros

QFT.
For me, Mach 3 and whatever shave gel is on sale when I need it.

I got my belittling out early to save time. But its physically impossible for me to have shaved in the 70s.... At least without assistance. I was at most 3 months old when they came to an end.

I use 99¢ Barbasol cream with a DorCo razor and blades. DorCo stuff runs about half the price of the Gillette Mach III, and they have frequent online sales for additional discounts.
I highly recommend a Edwin Jagger Double Edge (DE) razor with Feather blades. Derby's are good too! If you really want to experience something that most people know nothing about is buy an alum block. You can pick them up from $5 to $20. I bought a 3.5oz Gentleman Jon for less than $6 on Amazon. It feels like your rubbing an ice cube over your face. It's just that good! It is a mild astringent/antiseptic and it will tone up your face if you choose to leave it on instead of wiping it off. Which is what I do. It dries clear so no powdery residue.

I use this:
with this:
and rinse with two bottles of this warmed to precisely 102.5 degrees F.
When I do, its with a DE loaded with a ninja blade (Feather Hi-Stainless Platinum ).

What's the point of shaving cream? I haven't used any since sometime in the early 90's. I use Ivory soap instead. I think the shaving cream's only advantage is that it captures the cut whiskers in its goo better than soap, but since I shave in the shower anyway, I do not care.
put it there good buddy. You just described my last two decades of shaving. If it ain't broke......
Found a deal on these products at their website:
"FIVESPOT" gets you $5 off $5 (not a typo!) through 6/15.
I'm considering shaving the beard off tonight. I know I'll hate myself in the morning if I do. I look absolutely terrible without my beard to cover up the nochinatall. Everyone at work will make fun of me and my wife will hate me. But I have clippers and a fresh mach3 ready to go.

Not Perrier? Philistine....
Mach V and whatever handsoap is available. Haven't used shaving cream since the early 2000's.
In the shower, it's easier on the plumbing and the maid.
Well I did it. Now for the humiliation until it grows back in.

I can't clean shave. Maybe I never learned how to properly, but I break out with ingrown hairs like a sunovabetch. That, and I look like I'm about 12 clean shaven.
For now, it's the dome clippers without an attachment once every couple of days or when it starts to get itchy.
In reply to beans:
Have you tried a few aftershave lotions or balms? My fiance got me some after shave lotion from bath and body works, that really reduced my skin irritation after shaving. Im glad she did because I would never have thought to go into that store on my own.

Is why I spend the little extra for it, plus have a goatee. In the summer I have a second job and have to shave a lot more often than in winter and in winter it's so damned dry up here that anything helps, so it helps with the irritation. It takes well over a month for me to go through a tub of it, so it's not that big of an expense.

I use whatever disposable razer I find on sale, but want to go to a safety razor. But for shaving cream, I LOVE this stuff:
My wife took me in to one of their stores in Chicago. I've always had a problem with razor bumps and burn no matter what I used, but not since I started using this.
Whoa, that some expensive stuff
Unfortunately, a Norelco. I don't know what's up with my hands being so unsteady these days, but I got tired of slicing m'self every morning. Eh, maybe I just haven't learned how to use it correctly yet.

Only a metro would post something like that...
Whaal trimmer for the bulk of my beard, soul patch and neck line get the M3 power with edge gel in a con air hot lather device. I have been tempted to go old school with a safety razor/brush combo and clean shave but then I look 12.
