what flashlight

I like head lamps. I keep one in all of my vehicles or otherwise handy, but I usually end up using the LED flash on my phone.

Headlamps are great, esp for working on stuff. I'd like to get the zebralight H51Fw.

Looks like the OP will need to buy several types of flashlights to satisfy the community's need for vicarious living!

I use a redline. I carry it at work and use it on the cars. 3 AAA batteries, easy to stick in the pocket.

I use flashlights as part of my job (stage work, gotta be able to see when in the dark) and I go through a light a year as newer and brighter come out. I am currently using an LED LENSER. It runs 3 AAA batteries and goes from spot to floor with a twist of the housing.

Bought the Coleman 110 lumen focus beam out of necessity at WM tonight, I was dependable flashlight poor. Quick night test shines great light out to over 40'. For the money I'm very pleased w/ this light, it'll be my DD for now. Coming from incandescent to 100+ lumens... I can't wait to see 200+. Fits in my coverall leg pocket poifect too.

So this is out of your range then?

I've got a 400 lumen ShiningBeam S-Mini thats pretty darn bright and fits comfortably in any pocket. There are brighter lights out there, but this one is sold by Shining Beam in NYC. They'll get to you in two days and be fixed in a week if anything happens to them. He makes a 700 lumen "Blaze" that's pricey but again, designed and warrantied in the US.

If you don't mind carrying a real 1000 lumen monster in the size of a 2D Mag, there is a guy named JayRob on Candlepower forums who can build you a flashlight to end all flashlight for about $130.

Now that I have some fabrication equipment available, I intend to build a few flashlights. While I like LED lights for EDC, I really like big, clunky lights for vehicle lights. I also like using incans in these lights because the light seems more natural. Warmer color temperature xenon arc does pretty well, too, but I'm not looking to spend that much on a light.

Quoted for truth. Magcharger and Surefire LED are the perfect combo.

Harborfreight has this 9 LED unit for free in almost all their sales fliers. It works quite well, throwing quite a bit of light and taking many drops without failing. It's become the #1 small flashlight around our house.

My only dislike is I find the bluish hue of LED lighting to render visibility to effectively nothing. Maybe it's just my eyes, but I far prefer the full spectrum of conventional filament bulbs. When it comes to conventional filament bulb smallish flashlights, I really like maglights.

The inexpensive led flashlights are like this. The cree led's (etc) are much better (blue tint is gone/higher output/higher efficacy) with the price tag to prove it. But led's are not warm like incandescence bulbs.

I really like the Shining Beam flashlights.

I love the short stubby ones like the HF one posted, but I can't stand the cheap LED ones. Too blue.

I want one that has multiple levels and also an adjustable focus.

But I don't want one that uses exotic batteries.

Thoughts? I'd like to spend less than $50

4Sevens (yes, I'm beating the hell out of this dead horse) lights are high quality LED (not blue, very white) with multiple levels - including various beacons and strobe (party) mode - with non-exotic batteries. No adjustable beam on the Preon, which is the only one I've laid hands on. Can't speak for their other models off the top of my head.

To throw my own query into the fray here, how about a recommendation for a tacticool light with a switchable red filter? Like press once for red, again for white, or something like that. Does such thing exist?

I had one back in the day, I loved that light. I bought it at LL Bean if I recall correctly.

Check out the coast led flashlights the next time you are in depot/lowes.

Sure fire/ stream light aren't bad, but they use spendy non easy to find batteries. I love my coast led's

It is.. been on my belt now for two years.. and that is saying something. Takes a beating and is still brighter than most anything under a tactical light..

Saw some at Tractor Supply a while ago, not sure about recently.

Coleman again. White, red and blue led light, under $35 here.

That Coleman is actually a pretty nice light. It doesn't have the awesome programming that I'm used to, but it's a nice straight forward light.
