Really the only other thing was a bunch of cat 5 cable. No idea why a previous onwer had so much of this stuff everywhere.
Oh, and since the rafters we're perpendicular to what I thought, all I had to do was measure to find that the garage door installer simply missed the stud. A 4 inch lag bolt on a slight angle later, and I am in business.
I'm very happy to find the antenna, and also happy that the door was an easy fix!!!
I'll let you guys know what the antenna seems to be picking up. Anyone have an o-scope I can connect to see what is coming in (if it doesn't happen to be a tv or radio signal)?

I would've really liked to find that.
In reply to Robbie :
You would love my attic then.
That looks like a ham antenna to me, but that just could be because I know hams. The fixed direction is odd unless he was trying to talk to someone in particular...on the other side of lake Michigan?

Quick review of Google maps shows a good likely hood this antenna is pointed at Grand Rapids area. It would be 150-200 miles as the crow flies. Is that plausible?
I think the antenna is a tv antenna. Looks to have a very similar design to this https://www.homedepot.com/p/Channel-Master-60-Mile-Range-UHF-VHF-FM-HD-TV-Outdoor-Antenna-CM-3018/203763043
Which is listed as uhf, vhf, fm.
Mine was lots of scrap wood, a badminton set and lots of mouse E36 M3.
Well I had to check mine out. From what i could see, just a bunch of fiberglass insulation and a few spare pieces of conduit. ECM had me really hoping for a motorcycle project.

The antenna should work great for TV. I'm a big proponent for big old school antennas.

I think I'm the only one in my neighbourhood with an antenna on the roof. I get one channel. That I don't watch. Probably put up there in the 70's, it -does- receive the digital broadcast.
I was betting on the partiality digested remains of that Kitner boy.

I would be very excited about that too. Does anyone else think that could be a good name for a book "The Motorcycle in the Attic" ?
Maybe I'll buy a cheap motorcycle and disassemble it and put it in the attic. That way someone else will have the chance of having the fun of finding it in many many years.

Buy two different ones and put random parts from each one up there, so they'll really wonder what kind of weirdo used to own the place.
Recently we (finally) put a real floor in our garage attic, meaning just about everything had to come out. Most of it was our stuff--holiday decorations, car parts and a few old bikes--but there was some random lumber up there, too. I did find some car parts that I had totally forgotten about, too. Anyone need some old B16A engine mounts for a CRX?
And I guess this is semi-related:
Several years back a friend bought a house that was rather cluttered. Among all of the junk in the basement, she found a complete moped!

I am sure that I can help you out with that. I know of a few without titles that are essentially useless at this point!

I have an old suzi GS that hasn’t run in probably 25 years.
... searching CL for really cheap motorcycles ...
I found a big, shagadelic waterbed headboard in my attic while doing a purchasing walkthrough. Renters refused to remove it on the grounds it wasn’t theirs even though it perfectly matched their other crappy bedroom pieces; liars!
I used the fine piece to demonstrate Newton’s first law to my young stepson by flinging it out of a pickup truck’s bed.
At one point I had most of a dismantled MR2 in my attic. My wife wasn't amused when she tried to put something up there one day.
The UHF part of the antenna has not been unfolded. You need to check and see if the UHF part was even hooked up. You will probably need UHF. TV fool will show you where to point the antenna.
