Good thinking! There is a hospital not far from the bar. If I start a fight I might even get a ride there.
i got to look at a bunch of bridges around Winterset.. i'm sure you could have some drunken fun in and around a couple of them after you take a drunken tour of John Wayne's birth house....
I spent a day or two in Marshalltown, IA once for a job interview. I figured if you are under about 75 years old you are bringing down the average age of the town while visiting.
I didn't find much fun to be had there although there is a cart track.
Iowa 80 truck stop? Good for 30 minutes. CB radio store down the street kills another 6 minutes.
(Yeah, more towards the east Iowa side)
Go chase pigs through the corn and soybean fields, lol. I grew up in Iowa. Getting drunk at the bars was the most popular activity in Muscatine at leadt.

Funny how just a little editing makes a good idea incredible. Also, you're drunk, or will be, so you have a better chance of not dying in a fight.
Make some crop circles. Shine odd-coloured spotlights off the clouds in rhythmic patterns. Take a grainy photo of a pie-plate against the sky and sell it to all the tabloids. Read all the hilarious "speculation" about your efforts the next day.

You could always proposition the locals......
IRRC Iowa has more racetracks per capita than any other state in the U.S.
Find the local bullring and go watch some roundy-round fun.
steal a tractor, welder, and some steel and do this.....?
Are you bored, depressed, and upset? level the town
If that fails, you might want to call the A-Team.
I live just west of Des Moines. We are leaving tomorrow for the Chumpcar race at Road America otherwise you could come beat on our chumpcar with us.
For a great drive, check out some of the two lanes roads around Winterset, lots of winding hills, nice views. Plus see the birth home of John Wayne in Winterset.
In Des Moines, check out American Dream Machines, lots of great eye candy. http://www.admcars.com/ Check out this place in Adel, always have a couple cool cars. http://brickstreetmuscle.com/
My favorites on food, pizza by downtown Des Moines, Gusto Pizza, is awesome. http://gustopizzaco.com/ New brewery/restaurant downtown Des Moines, Exile Brewery, haven't been there yet, but is opened by a well known restaurant family in Des Moines, the Tursi's. http://exilebrewing.com/ Great meat/bbq by far is Jethro's BBQ, I always go to one in Waukee, but they have several locations, best brisket for sure!
