I like how that number for the northeast shrinks so drastically as I narrow down to my state(63k), county(55k), and town(37k).

Yelp, we just got a new policy from the county today for "Healthy Workplace Leave", indicating that if the county were to close, employees would be given 14 days of paid leave.  Yay, I guess.  Good to know there's a bit of a safety net for coworkers without a lot of vacation time and wiggle room in the budget.  (I've got 11 weeks of banked leave, so I'm fine either way)  On the other hand, the fact that they are thinking about it hard enough to create a policy is perhaps not-so-great.

Just left a small conference, 30 people. We made our own hand sanitizer to hand out for it breaking bad style in the hotel lobby at 9 pm. Went to 6-8 places to finally find some 91% isopropyl. Even tried the liquor store but they were out of everclear.

Non essential travel was cancelled on Wednesday as I was sitting in the ATL airport. Still going to TX for the week Monday.

My company got the email last night - other than driving office to office, all business travel must be approved. I work in a construction trailer with some 50 people crammed into relatively small offices.  In general, if anyone gets sick, we all get sick. I'm in the late stages of a mild cold, although I don't interact too much, so I don't think it spread.  I live in a hotel, so there's not much I can do otherwise other than to go home to PA.

Everyone seems to be going about their normal lives here in Portsmouth.  Not a lot of discussions or panic.  I did notice the one supermarket I went to yesterday was sold out of hand sanitizer.

I went to Costco yesterday. Usually tons of tp, only a little and limit one per customer. Limit two per on sugar, flour, maxipads, tampons, depends, rice...  Latex gloves looked ransacked. Someone minding the cart wipes.

DC area.

I've noticed Costcos seem to be getting raided all over.  My wife and I generally shop at Lidl and/or Aldi and they aren't low on anything other than hand soap.  We went to Walmart yesterday to pick something up and they didn't look low on anything either.  I've heard from a ton of people about Costcos being half empty though.

That sure ramps up the debate for us.  Thankfully, we have the 48 hour cancelation policy in place right now, and the credit can be used for cruises we already have booked.

If Costco is anything like Sam's Club, that doesn't sound out of the ordinary...

We went to Costco yesterday just for our regular supply run and they didn't seem too picked over.  Plenty of bottled water, TP, all that stuff.  They did have "LIMIT 2" signs up around the skids of water, though.

The biggest change was that they've canceled all the food samples.  This is probably the best thing that the Kung Flu has brought to humanity.  I could navigate the aisles without having to push my way through throngs of people that were standing around the sample cart oblivious to the world around them.  Reminds me of my dogs when I open the treat jar...

We had two emails over the weekend from very high up, that if we are in an area impacted by Coronavirus, work from home until further notice.

Nothing yet in OKC, but they did confirm at least 1 case in Tulsa just 100 miles up the turnpike.

At this point I just want everyone to get it and get it over with.  The public response is about what I'd expect from the zombie virus being released and I'm just over it already.

My hospital is already looking like a ghost town as people stay away.  Has anyone calculated what the per fatality cost to the world economy is?  I'm guessing something on the order of a billion dollars per person.

Out of curiosity, I checked Carnival and Royal Caribbean stock prices just now. Down 12% and 20% respectively. Ouch!

I was at a Costco food court yesterday.  Did not a see lot of TP buying, there was bit of evidence of water buying (but maybe not unusual).  They did have some people they obviously hired attending the food court and constantly cleaner the area.  I did not watch closely, but they seemed to concentrate on flat surfaces, which is nice, but I would think the hot spots would be the handles and buttons on the various dispensers, which I did not notice them cleaning.

The most commonly estimated numbers I've see for the 2003 SARS hype / scare indicate about $40 billion lost worldwide against a grand total of about 800 deaths.

Doing the math yields about $50 million lost per individual death.

Wallstreet hit the panic button this morning and temporarily halted trading. Currently, the three major indices are down ~6.5%.

The ten-year treasury note hit 0.408% (the 0.93% it got down to last Thursday was a historic low for reference).

Saudi Arabia wouldn’t agree to limit production which sent US oil down 25%. If you have a gas guzzler that you’d like to sell, the next few weeks would be an opportune time.

I actually canceled my Costco membership because I was tired of dealing with people hovering around the food sample carts, blocking everyone else from just trying to make it through the aisle.

It's geting to the point on wanting to buy more.  While it may not go back to Jan levels, it will go back up.  Unless everyone dies- and then the money I have there would be useless anyway.

The big tech companies are starting to tell folks to WFH.  It won't be long for the rest of the tech companies (lemmings) to follow suit.

I work with a lot of tech companies from small to large and there have been more and more requests for remote engagments rather than in person.

Mind you, still flying out to see a client this afternoon, so it's not all of them yet.

Our department VP is big on the whole “teams should all be based in the same location”.  Being the only remote member of my team, it’s been a little nerve wracking.  Maybe this’ll change things a bit.

Yep. We're having everyone who's capable of doing so WFH on Monday and/or Friday next week to test if our servers can handle that amount of people.
