I went to a dentist once who looked and said "Oh, you have your wisdom teeth. We need to take those out." I said, "Thanks, but NO."...
Same thing happened to me. He saw the teeth and wanted to take them out, no reason, just take them out. It was like he saw some bags of money in my mouth and figured they were his.
Needles to say, I never went back there.

It was my first visit to that doctor. I was relieved to hear him say, "Your wisdom teeth are fine. You just let us know if they bother you." The area I'm in isn't full of the richest people around, so I'm sure most people would react similarly.

We, I am aparently 1 in 200 that do not have any wisdom teeth, which is good since I was more or less been a developmental othodontist's nightmare, I finally had to have all of my remaining (12) baby teeth pulled in 5th grade. At least I've got enamel like adamantium.
I had my 4 wisdom teeth out this past spring. They gave me the twilight anesthesia. That felt good. I was conscious for the whole thing. Procedure lasted 15 minutes tops. I was in some pain later that day and a little sore the next day. After that I was fine.
Multiple reasons for having them removed. Two came in crooked resulting in me biting my cheek fairly frequently. The other two came in partially with a flap of my gums covering half of the tooth. The final straw was when food got stuck under the gums resulting in an infection. That was kinda painful. Also in case you were wondering having puss in your mouth is unpleasant.
I had all 4 removed in the same day. One had roots that were splayed out so they had to cut the tooth in half before pulling the halves out.
