I wonder why GM and Chrysler are dumping dealers but Ford isn't.

Because Ford hasn't run out of money. GM and Chrysler have.

Because Ford doesn't have bankruptcy protection to hide behind when the dealer lawsuits start flowing?

My wife spent this week with her mother in Dayton, Ohio. One of her neighbors owns a local Ford dealership, claims business has never been so good.

Wonder why...

I really like hearing that. I'm dumbfounded as to why Ford hasn't started a massive marketing campaign. My brother and I have talked extensively about it. He suggested Dennis Leary should be the spokesperson, and the commercials should go something like:

"Why does Ford make the best vehicles in America? Because we have incentive to. While the other guys are flying to Washington every weekend, begging the government for permission to steal your hard-earned money, we're working hard to produce quality vehicles that you can afford. So get to your local Ford dealer today for a test drive, and when you pass some sucker in his bailout-mobile, smile, honk, and give 'em the finger."

Because Alan Mulally sat right next to Nardelli and Wagoner when they asked for money? Because Ford knows that if the downturn persists much past this year, they'll be in the exact same boat?

MmmHmm. Seems like a heck of a time for Ford to be advertising how they aren't going anywhere, etc.

But, they will probably miss the boat on that, and thereby miss the huge increase in market share they could get.

Once again, Poopshovel FTW. +100. Except I vote Louis Black as the spokesperson.

When Mulally moved into power, he tried to shore up the dam by decreasing dealers ( though not to the same extent as GM or Chryco.) and selling assets, Aston, Jag, and LR, to fund future projects. Smart move!

I have had a sign in the rear window of my truck for a few months no that says "NOT PAID FOR WITH STIMULUS MONEY" It was more a protest against the tax money being seized to pay for feel good programs and pork spending than to do with automobile manufacturer bail out funds, but it seems more appropriate that way. I have received a few fingers from cars with Obama stickers but most have been thumbs up acceptance.

My sign even made the local political vent column in the Atlanta paper. Most people are proud to have a vent published, I am a vent.
