Anyone else playing this? (I know one other is for sure, maybe two- XBL yall)

Initial impression- it's interesting. It's another Bethesda game. It's physically huge, but it seems to be largely transitional. Lots of open space without a lot going on. Very...fallout-y. Hoarding is still a major problem. Even worse now because I can carry my whole pile of useless E36 M3 in my spaceship on the floor. I have a couple dozen foam coffee cups for ABSOLUTELY NO REASON.

I've also been killed for attempting to rob the gun store. Apparently they have more guns than I do.

I might stick with this one more than I do most Bethesda games- I couldn't do Skyrim because I just don't care about dragons and E36 M3, and Fallout... IDK why I never did fallout. I own a couple copies of it, I think? I own a lot of stuff.

I haven't downloaded it yet, but seriously excited to get into it. Maybe after SEMA when I have some free time.

Admittedly, I have to play in small doses. It's a deep catalog, and I'm prone to getting distracted easily. I think i'm still on earth, actually. I found what is supposedly a rare side quest because I'm a hoarder.

Ugh.  I wanna play.  No XBox, PC isn't powerful enough to play it.

I need to upgrade my rig.

I didn't need to see anything other than the colors and the basic shape to know what that was.

admittedly, I was extremely apprehensive. Bethesda launches are legendarily sketchy. Redfall, Fo76.... etc etc. Additionally, I had found their games in the past to be difficult to get into for...reasons. I tried 76 AFTER it had been fixed a bunch, got out of the vault and got so mad at the tutorial i uninstalled immediately. I played some of 3 but I just never got too deep into it. Skyrim...... I took an arrow to the knee. Decided I didn't like dragons and E36 M3.

I however REALLY enjoy No Mans sky. One of my favorite games. Probably have 500+ hours into it. Bethedas overlay on the NMS universe is something that intrigued me a great deal. And then ship building?

My last worry was the fact that I bought the controller. I have three preorder controllers. This one, Sea of Thieves, and Forza Horizon 5. Two out of those three have had absolutely ass launches. Starfield was Bethesda , Bethesda is sort of legendary for bad launches....I didn't have a lot of hope. BUT- M$ owning bethesda meant it was day1 on gamepass, and that made it easy for me.

no, but this is.

That potato room is likely made by the same guys that were famous for cheese rolling in Skyrim- which was half the reason I played THAT game.

I've been interested in this but figured I would wait until the first serious update/patch comes out.  Will be playing on PC.

So it's first party and cloud enabled. Grab a month of game pass ultimate and you can play it on a chromebook, if you're internet is up to the task.

I'm digging it so far. I'm a smuggler, working for the government. Haven't decided if I'm going to double cross then yet.

It's very overwhelming at first. There's just so much stuff to do, but so many prerequisites. Already feeling bethesda-y though with "Go here and do some quests, then come back here, so I can send you right back where you were again"

I'm having issues with some of the travel aspects, because I keep trying to skip steps, but this might rival Skyrim and gtav for time played when all is said and done. Especially if there's dlc and console mod support down the road.

I've played it a couple of nights this week after the kid goes to bed. It is massive. At times, overwhelmingly so. I'm doing Constellation things with some little sidequest distractions and am very happy with the money I spent on the game so far.

As impressive as the game is at launch, I can only imagine how good it's going to get in a few months or even years (Starfield Ultimate Game of the Year Deluxe Edition?)

As soon as I can find some free time, I'm definitely going to buy it.

If the game designers would stop platform blocking it would be great. I hate that specific games are locked to a certain platform.

Exclusives have been around forever, and will be until the console wars are finally over.

Microsoft, owner of Bethesda, is at least nice enough to dual release on console and PC, and offer first party games on the cloud, which can be played from pretty much everything with a decent internet connection because their servers do the grunt work.

Sony, the exclusives king, is finally realizing computers work, but their cloud gaming is nonexistent and they really don't want to push the play on PC aspect because they're shiny happy people that sue their customers and like to dictate everything about their games, and PC lets you work around that. It's just a shame their exclusives are actually worth playing, like God of War, uncharted, and Spider-Man.

Of course with PC, you have steam, epic, GoG, and a multitude of other platforms constantly releasing all kinds of games which essentially nullify console gaming, but you gotta stay up on graphics cards every few years, which cost as much or more than the new consoles that come out every decade or so.

I want this particular game on PC with full mod support, but getting my 8 year old system up to spec just isn't worth the cost since my desktops main job is being a ps2 emulator.

I've not used pc for gaming since the mid-late 90's. Really not planning on it now since I can get most of what I want on a platform that does all the work for me.

Still doesn't mean you can't play this with xcloud and a Bluetooth controller, which your ps4/5 controller should be. Just trying to give you options.

This game needs a berkeleying rover. I'm really sick of running kilometers around planets trying to get fast travel points unlocked. Meanwhile, People, well an extremely vocal minority (Go figure), are complaining that liftoff and take off isn't in real time and you can't just fly to a planet and land directly on it, you need to do a little fast travel jump and how it "breaks their immersion". berkeley that. Some streamer did a 7 hour flight from earth to Pluto. 7 berkeleying hours just across a single solar system, while there are hundreds of systems and literally thousands of planets to explore. I've been on one PLANET for 4 hours today just trying to finish a quest. Definitely definitely need something faster than feet for planet side excursions long before we need to fly to planets and manually land.

Ship to ship combat is rough. Control in space is a little too accurate, which makes it way too easy to get surrounded and slaughtered while chasing targets.

I've only had one crash though in about 18 hours of play, that's better than most old Bethesda games. Hell it's better than most of the other "AAA" games I've played in recent years.

Ship building is a bear and a half on console though, the controls there are just ludicrously difficult. I just want to add some storage space, but it looks like I'll either need to buy another ship, steal one somehow, or rebuild mine from the ground up.

Haven't even touched outposts and factories yet, that's going to be a whole other ball of worms. But it might make resource management simpler (haha right).

Lemme break it down for you.

What rico is on about is this newfangled deal called cloud gaming. Basically you outsource all your PC work to some grunt in a box somewhere and you use your rig as a streaming unit- sorta like Netflix but with videogames. Meaning, instead of being a compulsive hoarder like me and having .....5 consoles in your living room (plus an untold number around the corner in the spare closet...err...bedroom) you can run it all on a cheap ass whatever. Couple hundred bucks gets you by. I could just as easily be playing this on my surface as my series x.

The OTHER thing he was saying was about binding a controller to said pc. Because everything runs on Bluetooth these days (and has for 2-3 generations) you can take what I assume is a PlayStation controller and just Bluetooth that E36 M3 to said pc of indeterminate origin and use a controller like the rest of us heathens instead of the so called PC master race.

The THIRD part is a thing rico alluded to before, game pass. Handy dandy little deal Microsoft offers that allows you to Netflix and chill with all their E36 M3s- including gigantic first party AAA titles like....space Skyrim here. Rico has it, I has it, and that's how we're both currently playing this because neither of us trusts Bethesda for E36 M3.

In other words, for less than $20 and assuming your Internet isn't carbureted - you too can do stupid E36 M3 like this-

Nice. I mean, our internet is using T-Mobile 5G because while they can build million square foot warehouses 1/2 mile from my house they can't seem to figure out how to run high speed internet cables anywhere near me.

EDIT: Could I run this through the PS4?

Not that I am aware of- I believe you still need a Windows based machine to make it work, and I don't think m$ and Sony play nice just yet. I would be willing to bet your PC could handle it at least kinda. Worth a shot, anyhow.

I would FURTHER bet that Xbox/m$ will release this for PlayStation somewhere down the line- though given that we're in year three of the current gens life cycle, seeing it for PS4 seems unlikely.

Not yet. Well maybe if you jailbreak it, but I wouldn't recommend that. Not even sure if that's possible actually.

Android, Apple, Windows, Samsung TV apparently. After the Activision Blizzard merger goes through there's a good possibility of gamepass coming to Switch as well.

Here's a link to a FAQ page

It could hit PlayStation, but it won't be on the 4 if it does, as it's not on the last gen Xbox. God knows Skyrim is on almost as many devices as Doom, and Starfield is shaping up to be even more popular than Skyrim, but the crap Sony's pulled trying to block the Activision Blizzard merger would probably delay that a few years. Although I highly recommend reading their arguments for the entertainment value alone.

---------

In totally other news, I had my second crash today. Makes 2 in 24 hours of play. That's pretty good, sadly, from my experiences with AAA at launch the last few years. Same setup as the first crash, finish a quest, jump back to the place to turn it in, and hello home screen. At least they're doing good with the auto save.

TThere's berkeleying powers though. I don't care either way, but I know that can rub some people the wrong way.  I have 2 of the 7 unlocked and they're about useless, good thing they aren't mandatory.

This skill tree though. They made it confusing, and I really wish I could reset. "Spend points in this tier to unlock next tier" doesn't mean that. It means unlock separate skills in tier 1 before unlocking tier 2, not level up skills in tier 1. Kinda frustrating.

I need to start making notes about where I'm stashing all my resources, they take up s ton of carry weight on person and on the ship, and storage options aren't great. So build an outpost and build a hab, and either dozens of chests or just dump everything on the floor. Not great really.
