Yeah, I JUST figured out that stupid skill tree yesterday. Kinda pisses me off because there's a few skills I wanted to lean into early that I didn't because no one explained how that worked.

Also, space docking.

Docking. That sucked to learn.

Scan mode, aim at the ship, hit A and you'll see an option too hail them, when you get within 500 meters hold X to dock.

This thread got me to download the game. Trying to pick my starting skills...

Advice- lockpicks, ballistics, and weightlifting.

Those seem to be the most common for me. I also went with neon street rat, because that appealed to me, and I'm really happy I did. Neon is a neat place, and the quest line I'm on right now is a lot of fun - especially since I have an invisible suit.

Yeap. Lockpicking is fun. Overencumbered real quick and by golly everyone I've encountered wants to be murdered. Gladly obliged. Hence the encumbered. All their loot adds up quick.

I learned something today.

I learned that pick pocketing is my new favorite thing.

I also learned that apparently I can get caught doing it even if I am invisible, which doesn't make sense.

I ALSO learned that they confiscate your "borrowed" security uniform you were wearing UNDER your predator suit if you get caught pick pocketing.

Pick pocketing has been a wonky and risky thing in Bethesda games for a long time for exactly the reason you stated.

"But I'm invisible! How did you find me?!?!"

"I unno. You berkeleyed around and found out, didn't ya, THIEF!"

I've played fallout and a small amount of skyrim previously, but this is easily the most i've ever played a bethesda joint- and definitely the first time i've used their pickpocketing mechanic. it doesn't seem to report at the prescribed percentages to be sure- I got clipped like 3 times in a row on a 70+ success rate.

Seeing as Fallout and Skyrim are my two favorite games it looks like I am going to have to give this game a try.

dozens of hours, just about every side questline, the most expensive ship in the game (the narwhal), got married, have an apartment, accidently joined the pirates and made a quarter mil- and I JUST TODAY discovered powers. I'm never gonna use this E36 M3, but I apparently have them.

There's only one I've found that's useful so far, gives you 30 seconds of your own atmosphere. Great for overencumbered trips back to the ship

I think I just have the main  questline left. I'm considering speedrunning it just to see what the end is like. I'm not looking forward to ng+, but you already knew that.

I've played some fallout...

but really never looked into starfield as my opinion has aways been 76 was a E36 M3 sandwich, now is not the time to be berking around with a new IP, now is the time to get ES6 finished, and it better be morrowind quality.

But what do I know?

So I'm curious how this compares to the current big space sim, Elite.

For those nearing the new game plus loop.

Ship caps at 6

Suit and powers cap at 10

You can speed run artifacts in about 2 hours, but if you want powers to level up you gotta find them every time, this is about 6 hours.

Have not played elite.

Played the E36 M3 out of No mans sky.

Two completely different games.

I would argue this is not the debacle that was FO76. If you liked other single player bethesda games, and you like space games, giver. Game pass makes the cost of entry effectively 0. As someone who admittedly went into it expecting it to suck, I'm about to start my 9th speed run later today- and I'm highly entertained by this one due to the dice roll it gave me out of the gate. Luck of the draw gave me a big old sack of guns.

I see we have differing opinions on no mans sky.

In any event- id say it's worth a playthrough. I've never managed to complete a Bethesda game before this one, despite being attracted to universes like fallout. Dragons and E36 M3, nah. Post apocalypse? Ya.

We probably do. NMS is a space game, Elite is a space sim.

This is a pretty fair article comparing the two.

Interesting. I appreciate the sim side of it, I appreciate less the MMO side of it. I'll probably stick with NMS and Starout- New skyvegas, but I can see the appeal.

SPOILERS AHEAD-

I have reached my Venator suit- meaning I have reached the end of the NG+ loop, for me. I could go more, I've gotten very efficient. I gained 15-20 levels in the process, maxed out several skills. Max sneak, max jetpack, buncha gun stuff, shes a proper little ripper now. Found a trader called "the trader" and shes got some REALLY cool guns that i'd very much like to own for my own. They're very expensive. I know how to scare up $$$ pretty reliably though. Not much of an issue.

Didn't have much variety in my gameplay loop. I had one run where walter was evil, and I had to punch him to death. Got a sweet sack of guns. Had another run where  Sarah was a plant. Beyond that, it was 8 runs of the exact same thing, Shame really, I've heard rumor of other alternate realities that were supposed to be interesting. Oh well. Now ??? Now it's a relaxed run since I'm pretty deeply overpowered for most things and have a pretty good understanding of how things work.  Maybe build a museum to my hoarding tendencies.

I've got one final fight ahead of me, ok the whole last section on Masada, but then I'll be in Venator as well.

Still have the Crimson fleet quests to finish, and then it's on to the achievement grind.

The moor I've looked at outposts and resources, it's cheaper, faster, and easier to just buy resources than farm them. Until I XP farm on Venus to get to level 100, my most likely last achievement.

I'm beyond ready to just sit back and play again, grinding out the new game plus stuff has been BORING. Same planets, same people except one time constellation was full of children, same everything really killed a lot of the fun. So much for random encounters and changes throughout the universes.

The ship is a blast, and I've seen some really kickass weapons. The Trader sells most of them, the rest will be easy to make with the mod system.

So, I've started my second extended playthrough.

It's actually a lot tougher this time. Enemies seem to ratchet up a lot faster at higher levels. Most "dungeons" will have one accelerated big bad 20+ levels ahead of you. That means I'm seeing them into the deep 80s. I don't know what it is about the scaling of the game, but these guys are getting stupid accurate and peeling HUGE amounts of damage off of me in short order. In finding myself save scumming a lot more than I'm used to as well as TON more cover fire and slow pot shot plinking despite having guns taking guys more appropriate to my level down in 1-2 shots.

On the plus side, the learning process is continuing, and I found a gun store today I never knew existed, that's been there the entire time, that sells some of the most brutal automatic weapons in the game. That makes me happy.
