$99 for a cheap 2-stroke Harbor Freight like generator. Every time you stop, fire it up and hook it up. You can go a long ways doing that.

At the current price of copper I can understand scrimping a little.

It worked!!!!!!!!! We're now charging at 13.5 volts and it's working great. I swapped the rear half of the alternator while the front half was bolted on the car.

Tools used: 1 adjustable wrench 1 stubbly flat blade screwdriver 1 craftsman keychain screwdriver.

Great views of Detroit up there. Still, some can do lunch on the 19th. Easy.

Hmm, Lunch might work. Fairlane estate?

Tim Suddard wrote: I know better than to do this type of trip, yet I do it anyway. My family know better than to let me, yet they agree to come. We just love old cars. Getting to know the guys at Heritage and Silver Start was worth all the trouble. This whole game is as much about the people, than it is the cars. As for people, a reunion in Detroit is possible, but we are pressed for time. We get in late on the 19th, after a day at Tire Rack and Hoosier and then have meetings with the big three on Thursday and head to Harbor Springs to check out a car collection on Friday morning. Are there any car gatherings near Detroit that Thursday evening the 20th we could meet up at? And yes, we know Porsche Parade is in Traverse City that week. David will be up there with us. As for party at my house, not a chance, I have people there 24-7 messing with project cars or staying at the house.

There's always time for BBQ'd aminals. Let me know what you guys plan, I work just south of Detroit and can easily scam my way into a meeting downtown, escape early, and get lunch/whatever. Can't think of the name of the place, but there's some burger joint in the Detroit area that doesn't have a real menu and goes by the honor system in terms of ordering. Voted like #3 best burger in the nation or something. From what I remember, it's a pretty grungy place, too.

G-Pa from the town of East Jordan and the Jordan River that flows into Lake Charlevoix. Amazingly beautiful area. If you can, take the pretty drive from TC to Harbor Springs, passing through Charlevoix and Petoskey. I could give you hundreds of cool places to check out in that area. Order the Whitefish! As you know, certain areas have their specialties. When in Annapolis, MD - Crab Cakes; Maine - Lobster, Ensenada, Mexico - Fish Tacos, etc... When in Northern Michigan, you have to have the Lake Superior Whitefish. The debate could go long and deep of where to have it (and how to have it) but the truth of the matter is that it pretty good anywhere up there. If you choose a restaurant and they do not have Whitefish on the menu in some fashion (baked, fried, broiled, etc.,) leave; you have made a bad choice. Any self respecting restaurant in the entire area will have it. If not, you are in some chain restaurant. Find the door and leave. Actually, a good test of a restaurant is to ask the hostess, "how do you prepare the whitefish?" This question assumes they carry it...and they better have a good answer. Whitefish favorites: Fancy: Whitecaps in Petoskey, MI Whitefish Grenoble Fresh Great Lakes Whitefish sautéed in a lemon caper and white wine sauce. Served with orange basil scented basmati rice and seasonal vegetables. $22 Simple but damn good: The Villager Pub in Charlevoix, MI Whitefish Platter 2 pc - deep fried in a light batter. $11.95. 3pc: $13.95 dinners served with french fries, coleslaw & tartar sauce. substitute baked potato for french fries - $1 I get up that way every couple of years these day. This year, first week of Aug for family reunion. As a kid, every summer vacation was 2 weeks at Gram and Gramp's. Supporting my local economy: One hour from the Michigan/Ohio border (in my home town) is the single amusement park in the world with the greatest amount of roller coasters. If rollercoasters are your thing, then Cedar Point is the place for you. Sure, you may say, "I've been to an amusement park before." This one is the crown jewel and HQ of Cedar Fair which owns 15 parks. Video of this years new ride: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cJqhApNBjes

If you're from Sandusky, you know that Walleye>whitefish. Don't even get me started on smoked whitefish. Worst thing you can eat when ATV'ing.

Fried walleye is the waterborn equivalent of bacon.
