Help us make the call: What are we driving at tomorrow’s Florida State Autocross Championship?

The scenario: Tomorrow is the annual Florida State Autocross Championship. Each year, the SCCA Regions and independent clubs in Florida rotate around and host a state championship event at one of our more premiere sites.

This year, the Jax Solo/Buccaneer Region SCCA group will be putting on the event at the Florida International Rally and Motorsports Park in Keystone Heights.

The catch is that the weather forecast is grim, unless you’re a pelican. There’s currently an 80% chance of rain for most of the day, never dropping below 60% until after 6 p.m., when we should be done towing all the cars out of the soft grass that surround the course.

So here’s our dilemma: We’re currently registered in the Corvette Z06 in Super Street Mod, with a set of Hoosiers mounted and ready to go. We also have a friend possibly bringing a set of Goodyear SC3s that we could bolt on if the rain is still persisting, which absolutely looks to be the case.

Or, do we simply load up our 1991 MR2 Turbo with its Falken Azenis RT660s (and air conditioning, which makes clearing a foggy windshield much easier) and move to Xtreme Street A? This also prevents us from having to switch wheels twice in a wet paddock with possible 15-25mph winds whipping around us.

Yes, these are first-world problems of the highest order, but we’re letting you help solve them. Both classes are well-subscribed and should be fun competitions. So which button do we push?

There's a saying I heard once and try to live up to as much as possible:

Hope for the best, expect the worst.

I vote MR2.

I've already made the same decision, and switched from the E Street Miata to H Street in my daily. I'll be going from (hopefully) competing for a trophy to trying not to be last in class. That's fine, I'll still have fun and maybe exceed expectations.

With all the time effort and money that's been put into the Corvette, I wouldn't consider running it in those conditions.
